Skittish Chicks

Treats. Make sure they have grit. Fine sand will do fine. I dig p red earth worms for them. They will either take to them right off or be scared of them. Most will know what to do with worms. Play "keep away"! Good times!

A lettuce leaf, melon slice, yogurt, are all good treats. Even grated mozzarella cheese if all else fails.

I spent time everyday on my lap with each chick. A few started skittish. Every single one loves my attention. I do have a hen that would of been nasty if I didn't spend all that time holding her. My RIR. She has an aggressive streak in her, but she loves to sit on my lap every chance she gets. I've been attacked a few times from her. I'll pick her up and carry her if she nips my hands.

The girls will jump on my back when cleaning out the run too.

I supervise their free time. I can pick them up at any given time, even outside. If I see a hawk, I can quickly round them up and get them into their coop. My neighbor can not handle hers. She has the same breeds and did not hold them when they were young. They are very afraid of people and she has the hardest time chasing them back to their coop. I'm so glad I took the time I did. My kids helped too. At times it was overwhelming with 8 chicks. My RIR always needed extra attention.
