At Chance's touch, Gemma turned her head, surprised that he was there, but thankful all the same. "I'm sorry," she whispered, wiping her tears on her foreleg. An ironic smile played across her muzzle. "I thought I would be excited to finally, well, have a new life. But yet--" she shook her head, frowning.
"But, now you can play all you want. You have a new chance at life."
Gemma smiled slightly, but shuffled her hooves on the ground all the same. "I suppose I'm just sad that--that when my mother and I split, she, well," she sucked in a breath before replying. "She said that I didn't love her. At first I thought maybe she was right--" with a snort, she shook her head. "But now I know she was just trying to guilt me into staying. I still love her, even if she doesn't think so. I hope her new foal makes her happier than she was with me." There was no bitterness in her voice, only a desire that their ending should be a happy one. "Thanks for listening," she said quietly, a little embarrassed.
