Ailill walked into view of the herd where he stopped and stood stoically watching them.
His snowy coat was stained and splattered with the orange-brown clay he had been plodding through the week earlier. Ivory white mane and tail grown out and miraculously free from the mud, lay draped over his weary blue eyes.
He had lost a good 30 pounds on the way to where ever this place was, and while not skinny he had grown leaner.
It had been tougher than he thought possible, first escaping then surviving. And on his voyage he had oft wondered about the others that had been trapped along with him in that human pit. If any had followed or if he would see any of them again, slim chance. His was pure luck, a hand had left him tied to pole with a twine rope which had been no large feat to chew through.
He still wore the halter, now faded and stained as he once show stopping coat.

Black gold stood not fifty feet from him. She shivered. The small elegant saddle still on her back. The thick black reins dragged the ground beneath her. Her face was sunken under the thin blue hood that threatened to fall off. She whinnied weakly before falling into a thick pile of leaves. Her breathing was shalllow. She moaned loudyly
