Sled dog breeding

The problem is more that they don't know what makes "quality" They think that "I just want pets" or they just have no clue about problems in their breed. Or even anything about their breed. You would be amazed at how many GSD owners are completely amazed to learn that they are herding dogs. Ummm, why do you think that they are called "German Shepherd Dogs"? I asked someone who was posting an ad for a stud dog. I asked her about hips and elbows. She accused me of making up "all that hip problem crap" because she had never heard of it. You breed GSDs and you've never heard of Hip Dysplasia? Sadly, those kind of breeders far far outnumber those who are doing it right.

that's why I hate that word "rescue" Did he give them money? Then he bought her. People are always posting about saving dogs from horrible situations. 9 times out of 10, all they did was give the breeder money - simply encouraging them to continue breeding dogs in horrible conditions. Sadly, the BYB of the world way outnumber even the puppymills. I'd say that they do even more damage than puppymills. The greatest percentage of dogs registered by the AKC are by people who will only register 1 litter. That outnumbers even dogs produced in puppymills. That equals even more opportunities for unhealthy dogs. Everyone knows to avoid puppymills but they don't realize that the world isn't divided into "puppymills" and "good place to get a dog" If you say "I'm not a puppymill. I love my dogs" they say "Oh you must be a great breeder" They don't realize that there are actually questions to ask that will show that the breeder is actually a good one.

They can be. One of the worlds best show dogs came from a pound. The breeder gave him and his AKC papers and everything to the pound and a handler found him and started his AKC career. He's now I think 9-10 and has produced some of THE best puppies out there.
