I have a three month old seabright that seems very sleepy and will take what appears to be deep breaths with its head tilted back periodically. When I let it out of the run and into the yard it will perk up and run back to the coop, but once back in it just acts as though it wants to sleep. I also have another seabright and a silkie and so far they seem fine. It is eating and drinking fine. Any ideas on what could be the problem would be appreciated.

mAY i SUGGEST THIS TREATMENT

well maybe do this for all the birds at once
I would start with the Vit E and Vit B complex with wet mash

A)
chickens do get some upset in the gut with E.coli and then it goes toa nervous disorder
natural probiotic wet mash with Vit E and Vit B complex added immediately
basically the chicken has some nerve damage from the E.coli do this immediately
need neurolodigal vit E and Vit B complex for E.coli and the nervous disorder Also the apple cider vineager in water

(1) 2 tbsp per gallon of water till chickens are well and then 2 times a week for life
for one chicken use 1 tbsp of ACV
1 pint of water

(2 immediately give the chicken 1000 mg capsule of liquid Vit E by cutting the end of the capsule and taking the vit E liquid and mix in wet mash probiotic

(2-B) total amt of capsules equals the total amt of chickens fed vit's multiply amt of recipe times amt of chickens fed it and the amt of vit's times amt of chickens given them

(3 also need to crush a vit B complex pill in tabsp and add tsp of water to it
put it in the chickens wet mash after it is disolved

(3-C) then give this to the chickens twice a week for two weeks should see much improvement

(4 Do both Vit's twice today then for 7 days till you see some improvement in the chicken

(5 today I would see if the chicken will eat a wet mash with the Vitamins E and B complex
JUST MAKE 1/2 OF THE WET MASH GIVEN HERE FIRST TIME WITH THE VIT'S

(-B) THIS IS FOR ONE CHICKEN
natural probiotic wet mash
2 tbp of dry crumbles
3 tbp of milk sweet, sour or buttermilk
1 tbsp of non flavored yogurt
2 tbsp of apple sauce
put it on top so the chicken can smell and see it
mix good and put the
vit E liquid as directed in the wet mash
and crumble the Vit B complex tablet in a tabsp and add to the wet mash
**BESURE AND MIX VIT'S VERY GOOD IN WET MASH***

(6 Do this twice a day for 7 days to see if the chicken is better
then do this once a day for another week then once a week for a while
this should give the nervous system some stability and cure the bad E.coli in the gut

(6-A) they should clean it up in 20-30 minutes

(7 you can email by PM for more information and include this info so I remember what
also if you go to the top of your PC you will see the first line and that is the URL for your post
just copy it and email it back to me so I can read it for a update

this will help them get good gut flora
also put 2 tbsp of ACV in gallon of water and keep giving them this water for a week straight
then give it 3-5 times a week for life

I would also check the birds' environment - make sure it's nice, dry, not too dusty, not too wet (in case you're one of the people having rain issues.

A lot of good fresh air, ventilation, and sunshine (out of the heat) does so much for making healthier babies.

Also be sure that the bird is receiving an age-appropriate complete feed as 95% of their diet. They'll need the nutrition to heal. The vitamin A as recommended will help respiratory healing along with whatever else you use.

I would also recommend using VetRx as an aid to her breathing as she's having difficulty with it. One 2 ounce bottle lasts ages. Using a new q-tip end for each spot, and an entirely new q-tip for each bird, you will swab the bird with VetRx/water mixed (hot water, cold vetrx, stir til just warm). You swab each nare clean, swab the cleft in the roof of the mouth (as the fumes will go up into their eyes and sinuses), and under the eyes. That might help keep the airways more clean and less inflammed to facilitate oxygen getting in there. It's NOT a medication - it's an herbal supportive treatment that helps much as Vicks does. Comfort is a big part of bird healing. A comfortable and safe-feeling bird that can breathe is a lot more likely to eat and thus to heal.

Because of drainage into the digestive tract (through the roof of the mouth cleft), please use a probiotic daily to prevent diarrhea and its resulting dehydration, and to make sure the gut bacteria aren't too badly killed off by the meds. If you don't use a -mycin or -cycline drug, you can use plain yogurt. Otherwise consider acidophilis capsules emptied onto a damp mash or egg yolk, or even Probios or another livestock live- bacteria probiotic. (Tylan = tylosin and so yogurt is safe)

If you use Tylan, please use as directed for at least 3 days. Tylan 50 injectable is usually 1/4cc for a bantam, 1/2 cc for a full sized bird, x3 days. Injections are in the breast muscle - a different place each time. If you inject, always PULL the plunger first and make sure no blood comes into the syringe before pushing the meds in.

Using the organic apple cider vinegar in the water will also help to reduce mucus in the throat and help facilitate breathing.

Yes that worked VERY well. I couldn't believe it. Has anyone else had this problem????

I've lost 30+ chicks in the past month exhibiting these exact same symptoms. I have one tonight that is not going to pull through. I wish I had known of this treatment before now! I have had chickens for 3 years now and have been attempting to do everything natural, no drugs, medications, vaccinations etc, never again.......from here on out chicks will be vaccinated and will get the vitamin packs and.......there is so much info out there and so much to learn. I still want to do things as naturally as possible but I also want to ensure my peeps the best possible start so this doesn't happen again.
