Slimy waterers

I have the 5 gal plastic waterer and phew the can smell. I do use bleach on them and it helps.I spray them with very diluted bleach and then fill them up.
I also have 2 gal cake icing buckets I got from the bakery and they work really well with large chickens and are easy to handle. You can rinse them daily and bleach about once a week and have very clean water.

I choose to not use bleach as this pollutes our environment. So I seek out earth friendly alternatives.. THe vinegar in the water works well to eliminate the slime and reduce the amount of water wasted. Rain water is still available as well as muddy puddles, and they seem to prefer those! LOL With the ACV added to the water I can utilize 1 gal waterers and only dump once a day or every other for some.

Trial and error will reveal what will work for you. GL

If using plastic waterers then just add 1 oz of Bleach to each gallon of water each time you change it.

This will completely take care of your problem and also improve the health of the birds.

Bleach is 6%: diluted with 1 gallon of water is even much less.

The ratio I was given came from the State Vet. I've been using it for about 5 years now: wished I'd have known it 40 years ago! Works really great at keeping the birds healthy and from passing disease one to another which mainly takes place among chickens in the waterer.

I appreciate the thought though.

I like using aple cider vinegar much better than bleach. It does just as good of a job but is less harsh than bleach.
