Slow and Steady Wins the Race

I had a pullet once that was born with neurological problems, it was extremely hard for her to peck at things, and she moved her head back and forth all day. she did lay though, about a dozen eggs, and they were all very small.

I'm glad to hear there's a good chance she will lay. As long as she is physically alright I won't mind if she doesn't because we don't rely on eggs. We enjoy them and give away the extra, but their production is not as important to me as their health.

What happened with your pullet?

My hen had neurological problems so she could only eat out of a large feeder, and she couldn't peck things like bugs and grass. she also couldn't dust or groom. so I would give her a bath once in a while because she had horrible lice problems. I knew I wouldn't be able to give her a bath in the winter so, and I didn't want her lice to get worse, so I put her in the freezer with my roosters. it was probably the best for her, since she had trouble eating and grooming. fortunately your hen doesn't have that problem.

Sometimes it is best to cull for some issues. Your little girl seems healthy so I don't see why she won't live a normal life. I like the idea of her being the start of a Bantam flock, I can see her with a sweet little buff cochin roo LOL, maybe frizzle!!!!

The ideas are flowing now haha I plan to keep all the ones I have until they decide to pass naturally.

Now I'll have to wait and see how small she stays so I can plan around her. I think my SO is going to be in for a big surprise

Hopefully by now he is used to it.

My husband has resigned himself that he is now married to a 'crazy chicken lady'. I think as long as I continue to make a bit of money off of them he is okay with them! I have given him plenty of time to deal with the fact that I am dropping a big amount of money in some specialty breeds in the Spring

. Once I showed him how much money can be made off of the 'chicken trend' he warmed up to them a bit!

Good for you :)

So far he seems to be alright if I do the care taking. Which is no issue for me :) Maybe I'll get lucky and he won't even notice that I'm building a new coop. One day he'll look up and it will just be there haha

Here's the update. We're at 26 weeks and still no comb or wattle haha and she has gained a whole, whopping 2 ounces. I have a sneaky suspicion this girl won't be laying eggs...at least any time in the near future.
