My JB cortunix that I was figuring where getting ready to lay, laid their first eggs today. I HAD 5 males in with 3 females. Thats what I had that hatched that I had put all in one cage outside when they did go outside a couple weeks ago. Yesterday I took all but 1 male out and today they laid eggs.

Was that because I took those extra males out or just coincidence? Those 4 males will be supper soon.

All the males I took out have wore backs and the hens do to already. The 1 roo I left in has all his feathers. The hens will need aprons already and they just started laying.

I'll find out soon if they're fertile. Last year it was about 2 weeks before I got a fertile egg from them but of course they where different birds. What I didn't sell last year went in the freezer.

Well, I got another auction barn score. I bought this old redwood incubator for 30 bucks a couple weeks back. It was missin' the cover, and the trays. We had a couple rainy days here and I took some time to build a cover for it and made a couple of hatchin' trays for it. The old dude who brought it to the sale said it had been in the barn for the last 35 years and hadn't run for that long. I checked it out real good and replaced the wafer, then fired it up, fine tuned it, and now it's holdin' 99.5 rock solid. Nice upgrade from my still air Hovabator that I was usin' for a hatcher. Now I can hatch a million quail, and get a real jump on my Boneless Cambodian White-meat Range Rover project.

Congrats on the find. I wish I could get so lucky. I'm still waiting for DH to build my cabinet bator.

It will be a bit before I get enough quail to need more space than 2 LG's for bators. I use the Hovobator for a hatcher. Last year I incubated a bunch of quail eggs. I had more than I had room in the bators so hopefully he will get on the ball and get it made. My JB's finally got old enough to lay but I only have 3 hens. I got a dozen eggs from a swap so those are in the bator now and after I collect enough from mine i'll start putting them in also. I have 16 GG bob whites that have a ways to go before they lay. They're just a few weeks old. Still in the brooder actually. A few more weeks and they will go outside in a cage till they get big enough to go in a breeder cage. I'll probably process the 4 extra males I have from the first hatch today.

If It's An Original Redwood Brand Cabinet It Should Be Worth 10-20x's What You Paid For It... That Thing's An Antique And A Collectible 1 At That
