Not quite because there aren't quite as many to choose from and other than the normal buttons, corturnix or bobwhite, the rest are expensive. Not to mention that after you get too many they really need to be butchered (like mine, still waiting for me and too many sitting in the brooder, already laying, sigh, mabye this weekend if my family doesn't have a million other things that they think I need to do for them! )

WRONG WRONG WRONG..... MANLAW 471.3- 23 STATES CLEARLY --- THOU SHAL NOT DISPOSEOF OR EAT FERTILE EGGS. YOU MUST EITHER 1. SELL THEM AND MAKE $$ 2. LET MAMMA DO HER JOB. 3. INCUBATE THEM AND RAISE THE BABIES THEREBY INCREASING YOUR TOY BOX INVENTORY......

SEE THERE IS A LAW! LOL

Moving Day Update

Ok Got All The Gamebirds But 2 Trios Of Pheasants Up To The New Place..... Still Gotta Move All The Ground Pens, The Serama Shak And All The Mini Chickens In It As Well As The Bigguns. Then Empty The Shed And Dis Assemble It For The Move...... Phew Somebody Pass The Beer And Motrin This Way....

And woman's law would be to sell them and make $$, that's what I do. I haven't hatched hardly any of my own birds' eggs, which kind of sucks
hmm.png
My reds have stopped laying, and I only have the 2 reds and 2 cinnamons
hmm.png
Hopefully they'll survive the winter, or I can get them to start laying again

Not only is there a law in place, but i do have a reason for hatching so many...we (me and my cohort who does the hatching/brooding) found a USDA approved processing plant a few hours away and we plan to take about 1000 or more down the second week of november and try to sell them for thanksgiving. If that doesn't pan out, i'm gonna be eating A LOT of quail over the next few months!!! If it does work out, we're gonna take another batch down to have ready for christmas....I'm hoping to sell to individuals and local restarurants and maybe a few locally owned grocery stores while making some permanent contacts for future business.

Because of the uncertainty of the whole venture, the eggs in the hatcher will be the last batches until i get some income from this venture....I have managed to find one customer who says her lizard loves them and buys 6 doz/week and have also traded some for chinese food to the restaurant a couple doors down from my day job. As soon as i find a translator i'm gonna ask if i can put up a sign (probably in chinese) advertising them for sale to their customers....apparently quail eggs are VERY popular in asian countries!

If any of you read my reply to the "why quail" thread where i compared quail to pocket change, then you'll see this is me trying to have fun with a hobby i enjoy while trying to make a buck at the same time.....the worst that can happen here is that i dont go hungry....and possibly come up with the best/worst quail recipes you've never even wanted to imagine!

hmmmm.........which one sounds better

johnny quailseed
or
johnny quail egg

maybe i'll even start a cult that eats only quail....

starting to ramble...back to work..........
