Slow, slow, slow.....

I have downloaded chrome and have tried to download java....Will see if that helps with speed. I hope so!! I have enjoyed BYC so much in the past.

I use a computer @ work. Has WindowsXP. Ancient, I know, but works for everything else. Last time we ran Chrome, the whole thing dogged down considerably. I take it we must upgrade the whole thing? Our computer guy swept the thing clean, and we use Yahoo, which runs quite well...

It's not XP (and probably not chrome). What sort of security software are your machines behind? what sort of connection? What else is running simultaneously?) Got a canary in the coal mine `ancient box' assay, here: P43.2GHz/4GBmem/1.5MbDSL/WinXPSP3/`Chrome': (3 other machines on LAN with plenty of activity - other than BYC): Here is page loading time from a bit ago (about 3.5 sec): And, for anyone interested in the `tubes' - such as they are between here and there.

I have IE 8 on both laptop and desktop. At first when browsing BYC on my laptop, I just knew I had downloaded a virus or something it was SO SLOW...but when I came over to my desktop I was having the same problems and only on BYC, that I have found anyway. I will try downloading newer version or firefox.

Oh my, I just went and downloaded Mozilla Firefox...it took about 1-2 minutes...the difference is incredible! Thank goodness, now I can enjoy BYC much more!

Thanks for the great info! We know we have a TON of peeps still on IE 8 and that it feels like it might be a pain to change. Fortunately using you as an example, you posted that IE 8 was slow and then it only took you 10 minutes to download Firefox, install it, navigate to BYC, login, find this thread again, and post your reply. That's pretty amazing!

Again, we know there are bugs and performance issues with the new system, and fixing them is a top priority, but PLEASE meet us 1/2 way and make sure you are using a new browser... we STRONGLY recommend either the newest versions of FireFox or Google Chrome.

We have Microsoft security (that's what it says on our desktop), and a high-speed internet connection (Suddenlink). I'm not running anything else simultaneously. Wish I could understand all the info you've given, but I'm quite computer-illiterate as far as tech info goes.

Just click this link and download the version.

I love it and it's the only thing I use for internet browsing. Another idea is to clean your browsing sections. I have mine set up to were nothing is safe, almost like in-private browsing so my computer can run faster. Good luck!!!

I have a 6 year old computer running a 4 year old browser, because that is the newest that will run on this hardware/OS. (PPC Mac, OS X 10.5.x, Firefox 3.6)

Chrome slows it down even worse. Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest. Sure, tech is evolving exponentially, but a lot can be said for reliability and stability. My machine does not experience these issues on most other sites.

I also have a 40 year old pickup truck. It isn't pretty, but it is easy to fix if it breaks and doesn't require a tow to the dealer.
