Slugs !!

It's been so rainy in the northeast that I've got slugs galore. My girls run to eat the ones I throw in the run, but one time I gave them a really big fat one. The "lucky" girl that got it make a kind of gurgling glurking noise as she tried to swallow it. I'm sure she wished she had let someone else get that one.

We've been drowning in central MA for about 6 weeks now. Besides the fact that the slug population is exploding here (SOBs ate my basil, my petunias and most of my herb garden) the local farmers haven't been able to make any hay which is a big problem for my horses. The chickens are doing fine because, hey - they love slugs!

I love it! We'd even serve them up with cute little tongs to keep them from sliding off the plate! Who'd have thought that a spineless, shell-less, brainless bug could bring the agriculture world knees? I think we have a new kinda warfare. Let's pack them up and ship 'em somewhere, ANYWHERE that they can't catch a ride back!

I may have to run to the store and get some "cheep" beer so my girls have some yummy treats tomorrow. I love beer and eggs - now I won't have as many dishes to wash either!

Can you imagine how many beer-soaked slugs a commercial flock would need to produce beer eggs? It might push the slug population to the brink of extinction. Excellent. However, drowning slugs in beer and then feeding them to chickens might get some negative pushback from PETA.
