Small Eggs.. Will they Hatch?

Hi this is my third post up here so far everyone has been really helpful!

So in the picture you'll see some eggs I am currently incubating, Some buttons and some coturnix. Although notice the 2 eggs next to it on the right. One of my hens didn't lay an egg for a day and popped out those 2 the same day.

They're almost the size of the buttons and I believe they're going to hatch. What should I expect from this? A severely dwarfed coturnix?
Should I keep them with the buttons maybe since they'll be so small in the brooder with the other coturnix chicks

They could hatch.

Here in Germany the federal assosiation of poultry breeders recommend at least 12g for a quail hatching egg.
But I also hat eggs with 9 and 10g which hatched.

So give em a try.

I'm not sure how much the eggs weigh actually the hens are both around 9 ounces. I have 2 that have just pipped within me posting this. It has begun!

I would candle them to see if they're even fertile. They might hatch, though. Personally, I don't set really small eggs.

Out of curiosity I set the first eggs out of my celadon hen. The first two were not fertile, the rest hatched. The eggs were smaller; the birds that hatched were smaller. Both the roo and hen were bigger birds though, so the chicks have caught up to the rest of the hatching.

Having said that, one of the birds developed what is probably a birth defect and had to be culled. Now that I've had a chance to see what happens, I wouldn't set small eggs or first eggs again.

Your birds are hatching and will probably grow up fine. It's not a good breeding practice though.

Well the hatch is over they ended up only partially developing. But besides those 2 I somehow managed a 7 out of 8. I only managed 4 out of 14 of the buttons I had in there tho..


I honestly can not believe how small button quail are, they seem like something we're not supposed to see like a fairy or something haha!! XD
