Small holes in dirt?

It is southern california so if it were wet there OP's main concern would probably be flooding or mudslides.:lau All meant in good humor.
ahh, I thought op location was a secret. LOL I get crawdad holes in my yard and them suckers are big enough to eat !

we have crawdads where there is water.... running right through town is the San Diego River.... which is down to a few ponds here and there.... All you need is a string with some bacon tied to the end.... you pull up crawdads duking and fighting over that bacon.... :lau

We use crawfish nets or traps here, alot less work for some great eating! We do the same with crabs, no strings and bacon here. And I vote for mice living in those holes, we have them here in New Orleans as well.

Since I mentioned Cicada's.....these are what ours sound like in my region of the world, I was less than 4.9ft away from it and that is why this Giant Cicada never came into focus.... WARNING--Do not listen to the western hemispheres loudest insect at full volume!
Geez, do they make that sound at night?

we used to have em here.... before the drought. Not in the quantity other states get em... but along the riverbed... we have periodic Cicadas that live their lives underground between 13 and 17 years.... as nymphs... then they come out as adults and sing their songs. There are ones that come out every year but I dont think we have those...
