Smaller Coturnix?

A couple weeks ago I had a great variety of quail hatch out from shipped eggs. Relatives got most and I kept 15 then ended up with 16 as one hatched several days later. Understandably that one is smaller, but there are a couple others that are pretty tiny, maybe three times smaller than the rest. Does this just randomly occur with Coturnix or is it related to colors? Im very happy with my quail group, I was just curious.

I’ve heard tuxedos can be quite small compared to pharaoh or Texas varieties. But I only have pharaohs atm.
I’ve got 48 eggs incubating now from a variety of coloured birds though so I’m excited to see what comes out of it.

Oh interesting! I’ve got one huge egg, presumably from a jumbo. I’m hoping it hatches and it’s a hen so I can get a few good sized eggs.

So fluffy! It will be fun to see how they feather out

They are already feathering out and very pretty. As said, Im going to have to do some study on the different colors. Such a variety!!

I got 12 quail that were a week old and I had one runt. She caught up to the rest and is doing fine now!

Thats good to know!! I have three that I hope will catch up eventually.
