I had a massive egg too.Everyone who owns chickens will get some type of odd egg. Fart eggs are the most common but sometimes you may get one and not get another for a very long time and other times you may them get more often.
This is a normal large egg next to a couple of fart eggs.

This egg weighed 135 grams and was a double yolk egg inside a double yolk egg. View attachment 1099173
This was a fart egg. It had a tiny yolk. Most don't have a yolk.View attachment 1099177
Oh,I give em a rinse before i go putting my mouth on them. Considering how filthy most things are getting done in by a dirty fart egg has never crossed my mind. But don't eggs have salmonella on them? Not to mention they come out of the same hole that the poop does. Can't you get sick doing that?
Salmonella is from grocery store eggs that have the bloom (protectove coating from the mother) washed off before being sent to the store, then stored for 2 months with no protection, the shells are very porous without the bloom. Just wash the egg right before using itBut don't eggs have salmonella on them? Not to mention they come out of the same hole that the poop does. Can't you get sick doing that?
To blow out an egg you put a pin hole on each end and blow in one hole so the egg comes out the other. It takes some lung capacity but once it gets going it isnt hard.

Laid by a Red Ranger pullet and nearly the same weight as yours at 4.75oz or 134.7g.View attachment 1099356 View attachment 1099357 View attachment 1099358 View attachment 1099359

Good to know! I might try that.Do you do it with any other eggs you have? I might be the crazy chicken owner who has her chickens' first eggs saved.
Oh my gosh! That must've hurt, or at least been a real doozy!
This fart egg was, of course, laid right in a mud puddle so it's definitely dirtier than most of the eggs I get. I don't think she even noticed it pop out.
I had no idea!! So eggs laid by your own hens have a way lower chance of Salmonella, if any at all? I heard Salmonella was automatically in the egg from a chicken carrying the disease, and that that's why you shouldn't pet your chickens. (Of course I ignore that 2nd part, though - I love petting my chickens, even the ones that aren't so keen on being pet)
Salmonella is spread thru improper handling of food, which INCLUDES the FDA's insistence on store eggs being washed. I always wash my hands after handling my chickens just to be sure, but I admit I've kissed the heads of a few of them and didn't go decontaminate my lips.
Same here.I wash my hands after every handling, too. I don't think my chickens quite like being kissed on their little heads, but I still do it.
Haven't gotten sick yet!
Is it bad to eat a chicken egg that isn't washed? Just out of curiosity. If it is, that's possibly why the FDA insists on them already being washed - I don't know if everyone would make sure to wash the eggs they buy right before use.
