Smelly chicken

I used to go in and pet the chickens in the coop at night until the rooster decided to attack me one day. He has tried it a couple of more times so I carry a bamboo stick with me and show it to him when he looks at me weird and he leaves me alone. I don't know what got into him because he was pretty calm. I'm afraid to get rid of him because someone might make soup out of him because of his attitude. Lol
A lot of roosters actually do what he's doing. He thinks he's the ultimate boss, so you might want to show him that it is you. If he attacks you, you'll have to drive him away and keep doing that to him. Some people also say that a brief time in "solitary confinement" (where he is in a pen alone) can help too. Not all roosters will snap out of it, but it's worth a try.

i do that too

Have you noticed what her poop looks like? To verify there's a sour crop issue, the poop will be watery and white-ish. She may also extend her neck and gape her beak, indicating crop discomfort. The crop will still be full and squishy in the morning instead of emptying over night.

Monistat, an anti-yeast medication will cure the sour crop with twice a day insertions into the crop.

Hi Azygous! Thank you for the info about how to get rid of sour crop. I checked her this morning and didn't notice any lumps or knots in her neck/breast area. I have been very busy the last couple of days so I didn't have time to hold her so I'm not sure if she still smells. I will check her later today. This morning I figured out which one has diarrhea so now I'm going to read up on how to take care of that since I've been noticing that for the last 3-4 days. I will be glad when I figure out how to diagnose and treat my chickens. They are great pets. I'm new at all this. How do you do insertions into the crop?

I just take a quarter inch dab of either the suppositories or the cream and pull down on the wattles which forces the beak open, then I pop in the dose of Monistat. It's important to do it twice a day for about four days or until the condition clears up. Poop and appetite will return, signally the yeast is gone.

If you ever have a lot of chickens with the condition or you have several hens with vent gleet, a yeast infection of the lower digestive tract, copper sulfate can be used in the drinking water to treat multiple cases.

A dab of molasses will halt diarrhea.

Thank you so much! All my animals are special to me and when something is wrong it bothers me and I'm looking everywhere for a solution. They are pretty spoiled especially Tina (my houdan)
