Go to a tree trimming company and get a load of chippings, and dump them in the run. Don't worry about waiting for it to dry out.

Won’t it eventually get nasty when it gets rained and pooped on over timeGo to a tree trimming company and get a load of chippings, and dump them in the run. Don't worry about waiting for it to dry out.
No it won't get nasty- that is actually what I use in my run- chipped wood and it help absorb wetness and makes it smell nice too - I rake in the run at least once a week to keep things stirred up besides what the chickens doWon’t it eventually get nasty when it gets rained and pooped on over time
Good idea, my run is about the same size, different dimensions, a 12x36 foot. Its fairly new but all the fresh grass was gone in 3 days. So no problem with mold on the haybales? Is that more of an issue inside the coop? Straw is the one that harbors mites, am I correct? I think I'd like to try this! Thank you, sorry for all the questions. How big is your run? Ours is 20ft x 20 ft and we pop open a bale of hay every week or 2. Put piles in each corner and the chickens will scratch it out for ya. We've also used sawdust, lawn clippings, dead leaves, etc.
I might try that thanksYou will need to keep adding more organic material, as time goes on. Dry
lawn clippings and dead leaves are good, and the chickens will turn it all over for you. It turns into compost. It's call the Deep Litter method, lot's of info here on the forum about it. It works.
Do youWhat we do is put brown mulch on our run when it gets muddy and poopy.
How often do you put fresh mulch down and do u pull the old mulch out first? What we do is put brown mulch on our run when it gets muddy and poopy.
1. No, we don't put the old mulch out. 2. It really does vary on where you live. We get rain practically every day at this time of the year. On average we put new mulch in once every 2 months.Do you
