You would actually get a slight bump in hatch rate if you wash and disinfect. Not much, but a tad...

The incubator is a moist warm environment. Just the kind of place bacteria flourishes. Keeping the bacteria out in the first place makes a healthier environment for the developing egg and the newly hatched chicks...

I have become such a believer in clean eggs and not introducing germs, I never reach into the incubator or hatchers without latex gloves on.

I've thought about it before. Maybe next year, when I'm hatching lots 'n' lots more.
