This is where this thread goes down hill.....

There are a lot of things we know that are bad for you, this was not the OPs question, just your thoughts on the smoking bans.

Posts like this will ultimately get this thread closed because no one likes to be called an idiot for the choices they make....good or bad.

I disagree. THe post is directly related to the OP's question, and for those of us who do not smoke, is a real concern and statement on how smokers impact non-smokers. I am not saying that there are easy answers, but that the point is valid.

Both establishments that do not make strong efforts to curtail illegal smoking, and the individuals who smoke can be fined. Fines (can) escalate for recurrence.

Wow, since 1998! I swear I've been there since then. I remember one place in Prescott where I couldn't go because it was so small that smoke went everywhere even though they had a "smoking section". Perhaps they got some kind of exemption because of their size. I know they can do that here in California for certain reasons. Of course, the reservations don't ban smoking, so I know that's why you see it there.

No, no exemptions for size. Private clubs that are not open to the general public (things like the VFW) are exempt. Even before the Smoke-Free Arizona ban, smoking sections were required to be physically separated and have a separate ventilation system.

I'll have to go visit more often, then and see if that place has changed.

You are right.... I should not have described smokers as idiots, and I apologize (I myself was an avid smoker for 20+ years and know it's not an easy thing to quit).

I apologize for the emotion behind the remark if anyone was offended. I just know what I see day after day in my work and how much it's costing the American public.

We've had that same smoking ban in Ohio now for about two years now, and I have to say I just LOVE IT!

No more stinky cigars or cigarettes during dinner! No smoking in the office building! No smoking in the bars! And it's FABULOUS!

Enjoying every minute of it, and I hope it never changes, because a person really can't control where their smoke lingers, and it's really not fair to subject everyone else to it.......Now, if the smokers just breathed in, and not out, that would be perfect........

At least the smokers can still smoke in their own homes, or their personal vehicles, or outside.......

I don't mean to seem unsympathetic, but for 20 years, my parents smoked, and I had to just suffer through smoke curling around the dinner table, being stuck in the car on a road trip with my parent's both smoking......My clothes being all stinky.....It sucked! I never wanted to smoke and I never will........

Some have mentioned that businesses have just crossed state line or out of city limits to reopen as a smoking establishment. When the total smoking ban when into effect in Ontario some threatened to do it but when communities are further appart then others its not always feasible. In some cases it can take you the better part of a day to drive across Ontario..LOL
