Smoky Mtn East TN

If you want to try some on for size, I have Pearl Guineas and would gladly hatch you some.

I would really like to but am very leery to attempt it again. The last time something just started picking them off 2 at a time; taking 1 with them and leaving the other carcass. This would happen during the day and we never saw what was doing it. I appreciate the offer but don't want to sacrifice them again.

Oh goodness, understandable! Mine only run free range when my garden is grown up quite a bit, and I only free range the keets I have raised that year. I do straw bale gardening around my garden plot to kind of make them a "pasture" and I guess it hides them pretty well from evil creeping critters.

Sounds like you need a game cam.

My incubator arrived today!

So anyone getting ready to plant peas and potatoes soon? I'm kind of curious if I can plant the peas in such a way that they won't be mowed over by the quackers as soon as they break ground...

I tried a early sowing of kale and it was completely eradicated by either the ducks or slugs this winter.
May ima be planting potatoes tomatoes and corn .

I just put 5 rir and 11 OEGB in the bator last night humitidy is @ about 50% and temps is @ 101.3 ( still air)

Congrats on the eggs! This is my first try with an incubator & mine has a fan. I think it will hold 40 eggs and hopefully by the first of March my girls will be laying enough to fill it within a week or so.

Ill be doing a field pea/oats/vetch cover crop this year for the first time. We will see how it turns out..
When do you usually plant peas? I had intentions of laying in early spring.

My greens were destroyed as well by slugs this year, so much rain.

Anywho so happy to see an East Tn thread again

I've planted peas around President's day for the last two years with good success. I will probably plant 2 or 3 more times over then next week or so.

This is my first year planting potatoes so I'm hoping I didn't jump the gun too much by planting them now...

Popping in to say Hi again!!
I'll be busy this summer with a new veg/fruit garden.

Aaaannnnd I just ordered 25 Naked Neck Chicks. This will be my first hatchery experience wish me luck and fingers crossed the weather doesn't sour!!! I couldn't find many local NN breeders at all that cared about Showing or quality much so I'll have to do it myself.

Hoping to be laying by July. I might have some 1st year layers of for grabs out of my non NN hens.

I had fun at the meet we had, will we be doing that again??
