Smoky Mtn East TN

and congrats on the upcoming new arrivals.

Which meet are you referring to? I know the old E. TN thread had a picnic back last fall and met up a the Newport Show but that's the only 2 I have been to. Have we met?

I would very much like for the people on the thread to have meet and greets if anyone would like. I know there are couple of shows coming up soon: one in Knoxville and one in Newport. Not sure of the dates but April sounds right for Newport.

Also in case anyone is interested the APA Nationals will be held in Knoxville in December 2014.

ETA: Dixie Classic in Knoxville on April 13th and I was wrong on the Newport show. Its May 4th

Hi all! I do not live near the Smokies but I do live in east Tn (Morgan County) But I also go to UT so I'm over in Knoxville a lot.... anyways I was wondering where I could find Turkey Poults, Barred Rock Chicks, Buff Orpington Chicks, and some Silkie chicks here in east Tennessee? Or know where I could ask on here? Any help would be awesome and appreciated! They don't need to be show quaility as I don't do any of that, just as pets/layers/meat type thing. I've gotten into hatching my own too. I hadn't planned on buying any birds this year (wanted to hatch all my own) but I really "need" some more barred rocks and my parents gave me the ok to have some silkies :D Plus they want to get into Turkey raising and shy away from buying any from the store (and relying on my dads hunting skills for turkey... LOL).

P.s. I know Poults probably won't be available right now but I'm hoping to at least find someone that will have some (probably looking for about 4 or so) this spring!

Thanks a Bunch

I hope this isn't against forum rules but does anyone have dark cornish or crosses for sale locally?

& welcome! I don't know of any personally for sale. I do know you will be able to make some contacts at the upcoming shows but don't know what if any of the breeds you want will be there. If you are not concerned as to "show quality" have you considered one of the hatcheries? I think many of the hatcheries have dropped the number you have to order down and you get the benefit of having them sexed.

Flavum- I don't know for sure but I wouldn't think its against forum rules to ask about poultry for sale locally.

I have seen it on many threads from time to time. As for the dark cornish or crosses for sale I don't know for sure. I will PM you with the info I have.

My incubator is up and running. Set it up this morning and am trying to get it regulated. So far temp is swinging from 98.7 to 100.4 and humidity 54-57%. I am very happy I spent the extra $5 bucks on the digital gauge with a probe. My first ever attempt

I am waiting on the girls to get into gear so I can set eggs around the first of March.

in march to april, the first monday sale of every month in morristown on buffalo trail, will have them or contacts to get them, just know what your wanting to look for in health and price before hand.

on another note im going to ask some duck advice, as have some oddly seeming very tame mallard ducks hanging out in my yard. the neighbors children have been chasing and throwing bread at (the female ate a piece). they stayed close to my dog oddly, and dont get why would mix in with my parlor pigeons. the one of the three is doing something that looked like is flipping or something occasionally, and none fly at all, so either wings clipped or theyr too young or not used to flying. otherwise healthy as far as i can tell, which is limited.. one female/duck/hen (?), and two drakes. they just appeared other day out by the river but dont swim well or hardly at all and just walk slowly around the area in circles and rest a lot and dont quack or make much noise or consort with the other mallards at all. i thought maybe they were just breeding and confused and exausted from it, but not most other ducks around right now, and the wild ones look seemingly somewhat different, males and female much draber and somewhat smaller than others. anything in particular i should feed them or would bread, pigeon and chicken feed , fish feed work for now? should i let them come inside with my birds and put them up and find home as almost seemed like more dumped pets that happens a lot around here. i have some limited muscovy duck knowledge, but hear mallards are very different and harder to care for. are they just breeding and ignorant and extreamly tolerant to all going on around them? there was a pair of ducks when i first moved into the complex, but saw the female get chased down and smushed, then they backed up to get the drake. so not a safe area for ducks with cars, a-hole neighbors and their kids, and their dogs that are not controlled well to at all. i had a dog house outside, but brought in as cat has been coming in and ready to pop with kittens. anyone need decent foul raised barn/loft/coop cats in future when theyre ready and trained?

& welcome! Sorry but I do not know anything about ducks. I know there is a lady near Dandridge that does wildlife rehab for birds. If you want I can try to get her name & number; just let me know. It sounds like the ducks need to get out of there considering they may come to harm.

As far as kittens go I have 2 cats and can't afford anymore. My older cat is almost 12 and has not been doing very well lately. I read the life expectancy of an indoor cat is 12-16 years; so he is in his senior years.

Good luck with the ducks and finding homes for the kittens. How about posting pics when they are born? might lead to someone not being able to resist a cute kitten?

got back and havent seen the ducks since, but will just put them up temp if i see them around if they look in worse shape. yes the kittens im not trying to push off on anyone, as the first and last litter she had went quick once the interview process went well, and just thought with rodent trouble other area thread would say about, that cats raised around birds ect from birth would get good working homes on here (last litter were really great hunters but bobcat from fathers side, and these just probly from large feral cat/s).
