sn0wwhite's Wichita Coop for the Twin Cities

What a shame that is that it doesn't work right. I've hashed over getting one. Maybe someday down the road. But right now I'm obsessed with my birds...and frankly it's good for me to get up and do a few little chores everyday, and opening the door for them. I can keep tabs on what's going on health wise--predator wise, etc. I've got a little different set up than you this I understand. IDK....they sure look handy though...well when they work that is...

I'm tempted to pack it up and ship it to you. I wanted it because I felt like it would keep a little of their body heat inside the coop house for them... but it probably doesn't even matter.

Tonight I was too disgusted to even go out and look to see if it closed.
I think the big advantage of an autodoor is so the birds can get out early, if you're late sleeper or go to work before sunrise, and more importantly if you need to be gone from home at dusk so they get locked in the coop safely. Very frustrating if you can't count on the door to do those jobs.

Oh, yes, if it works it's an advantage because I am NOT a morning person. They've been awake for at least an hour when I get up and the coop house stays cleaner if they can get outside. They are also happier because that's where the food and water is.

Does anyone think it offers any help with keeping any warmth in? It's just a thin sheet of metal, and there are small holes on the side and a thin gap around the frame. I don't need it for predator protection... I'm confident nothing is getting in my coop that isn't human.

Depends on if it lets a strong draft in. Your run is pretty well wind proofed tho isn't it?
So the pop door being open might not make it 'colder' in the coop.

Yeah, I've got the shower curtain panels covering all but the top few slanted inches on the far right side of the run.

I think that the coop house is staying about 2 degrees warmer than the run, and I'm not convinced the door helps or not.

I can't even describe how happy it makes me to get up in the morning and go outside to my chickens. 2 are happy to see me (I might have treats) and two are busy on the nest box.

Finding eggs NEVER gets old. And even when they are not laying ...seeing those little inquisitive faces attached to adorable fluffy butts and thighs....just makes me smile. LOL.

There's challenges sometimes...but I'm hooked...

Happy Holidays (Merry Christmas & Happy New Year) To everyone!

I was gifted with 4 eggs - 1 from each of them including the first from Omelet on Christmas day!

Great! I got 4 eggs for the first time in 5 weeks today....not sure if pullet might be laying or other changes.
