Snake ID please

It's harmless, better than a 3 ft. diamondback I killed last fall or the black snake I rehomed last spring into the woods.

me and my brother always used to catch them. until the "released their musk" on us. then we stopped😁
We used to catch them as kids too. We didn't much mind the teeth part. We knew the smell was the worst. Mom used to get so upset. We'd come home smelling like dead fish. 🤣

It was next to my koi pond. It didn’t move when I “pet” it. But when I moved it’s tail it went into the pond and swam under a bridge. The chickens are safe but I hope it doesn’t eat fish.
I’m thinking garter snake? It was about 2 -3 ft. I’ve only seen tiny ones before. I don’t know how big they get. View attachment 2078018View attachment 2078019
yes! garter snake - harmless, helpful peace lovin' snake! Hunting for bugs and other small things, no danger to chickens BUT chickens are definitely a danger to small amphibs and reptiles. My flock have cleaned out my lizard population here in No. Calif.

Yep, no need to worry about you chickens:)
