Snakes...

Wow! Where did you get the ten mile relocation number?

I believe I got it researching snakes last week from a place that relocates them.

Have you tried moth balls? I once read someone put them in milk jugs with a hole cut in the side all along her property line to make them last

I haven't. I've actually read that none of those repellents work from snake removal service websites and stuff. But I'm willing to try anything at this point.

I think since youve cut the grass it might help as much as that did, might still get some, but if u went really at it im sure you wouldnt have quite so many

Here was an interesting read, although I don't think it is physically possible to snake proof a coop unless it is inside an completely enclosed pen/run that's made of wire a snake can't go through.

I had one egg yesterday and no danger noodles that I was aware of and I checked twice and again this morning. Perhaps they are moving on to more abundant sources of food.

I know what you mean...I've had enough too. I had 4 so far, husband shot two and I cut the heads off two with tree clippers.
I wish I had an answer for you, I don't think there is a way to keep them out. Lots and lots of rain has really not helped here. I feed them gold balls and the one yesterday had four golf balls inside.

One thing you could try (please don’t quote me on this, I heard it from my neighbor), is to take a smallish egg, and work a large fish hook (catfish hook?) into it with the hook tied to line or string. Tie the string to something stable (a cinderblock might work since it has a hole in the middle). It shouldn’t harm the chickens at all as long as the point of the hook is inside of the egg since the chickens won’t swallow the egg whole.

The snake will swallow the egg, which has a hook tied to a string in it, so the string will hang out of its mouth. Once he gets it down, he probably won’t want to give up the egg. Then as he starts to digest it, the hook will become exposed and will become caught in his stomach. Then he can’t leave.
Check multiple times a day to see if you ‘caught’ anything so you can kill it quickly. (I wouldn’t want a snake to suffer for too long)
