snakes

My sister called me from Texas and then sent pics of a big snake in her coop that had already swallowed one full sized hen and was working on another when she spotted it. When the snake saw her enter the coop, it tried to get out, but wouldn't fit through the opening it came in through. I suggested she toss an empty feed sack on the floor and leave the coop. 15 minutes later the snake had crawled into the sack to hide and was easily dispatched.

Where is your sister in Texas? That's where I am.....about 35 miles north of San Antonio. We released a fair size snake we caught about 5 years ago on our porch. Keep thinking it will be after my quail this summer. Ugh!

I would like to see that photo, we have 6 and 7 foot rat snakes and racers but none of them could swallow a full size chicken unless it was small breed and that would be a mabe it could.

Mabe someone turned loose a python or boa in the area, a good size one would have no problem swolling a small dog.

she sent it by text about two phones ago. Constrictors will crush their prey and can most definitely swallow things that you would not imagine could possibly fit. I had a captive Sonoran Gopher Snake, she was about 5' long and 2" diameter, but she could kill and eat full grown rats with no issue.

Actually, it was a young San Diego Gopher Snake... just wanted to correct my information!

But a full grown chicken is much bigger than a rat unless you are referring to a nutria rat, however i read somewhere that Florida has been finding some huge rats like 9 pounds.
