I'm a vet tech and I have seen what a snake bite can do, that's why the people a mile down the trail heard my screams and thought someone was being murdered. I still understand the WEB of life and its delicate balance, once you learn and understand something, its hard to un-learn it. The only thing you can do is to endeavour to be willfully ignorant.
I used to have corn snakes too. They are wonderful, so mellow and beautiful. I had a red and a dilution. I got bored of them hiding under their rug all of the time. Unless I was feeding them, it looked like I owned a pet rock. I gave away the snakes and kept the rats, they're much more social animals.
Pretty she didn't poop on ya? anytime I have to remove one from the netting they do their best to poop on me.. I really hate the smell bad as peacock poop when they are scared.
Good Grief, I've been searching to see if snakes will be a problem if I put my White Bobwhite Quail in an aviary wrapped in 1" by 2" wire. Obviously YES!! Thank goodness I read your posting Ebe because recently finished a 10' by 12' building with an outside run I'd probably have let peachicks use but will now keep them in the safe building until they are older then 6 weeks. I only had peafowl until someone recently gave me the White Bobwhites and see I'm going to have a problem keeping them safe. Up to now I've never had a peafowl egg taken by a predator or snake in the huge habitat we built. I've found a few tiny snakes in there. Friend about 1/2 mile away has horrible snake problem but he has lots and lots of poultry/fowl/birds. His loses are high and he kills a lot of snakes, some huge. Ugh! I may decide to rehome these precious White Quail. Not sure I have a habitat safe enough for them. So far people I've asked want to throw them on the bbq pit. I want them to die of old age, LOL!!Well... I'm soooo mad. I'm having a big problem with snakes eating and/or just killing my young chickens around 8 weeks old, a baby turkey about the same age and even a 6 week old peacock who was in a different enclosure. Needless to say, my eggs are disappearing at an even greater speed. My chickens and turkeys are in an outdoor pen and my peacocks are in a big outdoor peacock palace I built for them to keep them "safe" from predators. BTY, in one pen I have chickens, guineas, and turkeys and I have found 2 serrama chickens that look like the snake tried to eat and regurgitated them back because she could not swallow them, but nerveless they were dead. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!
