Sneezing and Wheezing cockerel *Video

Wattle discoloration is *usually* from inhibited circulation and/or oxygen... could be just dust or food, but if continues might be respiratory or worms even...

Denagard would be my first choice *if* you are worried about respiratory issues, since Tiamulin is unrelated to people antibiotics and has no withdrawal...

*If* going the dewormer route, I would use a good broad spectrum one like Safeguard or Valbazen unless you can get a fecal float done to pinpoint type of worms...

For now, I would isolate him and monitor, see if it continues...

I've found odd droppings on and off in there for a few weeks. Yellow foamy to lots of whitish liquid. With that in mind maybe I should do both?
Antibiotic then wormer do you think?

So far small animal vets here won't do fecal testing. My large animal vet doesn't do her own labs but I bet she'll send it out for me, I'll check on that this morning. (Should have thought of this before, :he) She would almost certainly supply me meds I request also.

Will update when I feed shortly. Thanks very much @Ravynscroft, hope you are feeling better.

His breathing still sounds a bit whimpery. No sneezing this morning. Ate and even tried to chase the big pullets away from the FF for the others to eat.

His wattles are weird, one looks folded. Could have looked like that last week for all I know, can't claim I normally get floor level with them to check. Note, I know nothing about wattles! Owned roosters aplenty, free ranged, but I was uneducated and hands off

They feel pliable and he doesn't overly protest me handling them(although I don't normally handle the boys much). They calmly ignore me mostly (except the Faverolle who is a bit high strung, everything's an event to him.) They seem a bit pale but here's his and a pullet pic to compare.

@aart Cornell has it all but not really close enough to zip out there, I think 3+ hours. There's a good local lab my horse vet uses, I just have winter brain I guess or would have thought of this sooner. Thanks for that link though, this vet doesn't really treat birds, I'm betting she'll help me out this time as a favor but having something else set up will be great.

I have a dog kennel sitting in my barn I can use. I'll get that set up for him. Do you think a wire floor could make him vulnerable to frost bit feet? It's about 10°f here today.

You could set a length of 2x4 in there, that's waht I do when I have to isolate a bird in winter.
Note: to use the tray under the crate you'll probably have to add smaller wire to the floor of crate.

Funky wattle? Check this guy out. I call him Willie of the Withered Wattle.
Not sure if it's genetic or was an injury I missed when he was very young(good possibility). He's the flock cock, so we'll see if any of his offspring have the same.
One good thing about it, it doesn't get frostbit :D

Here's pic of when he was young(4-5mo)

2x4 good idea will do. Yup I have other wire I can add if I can work out there today, too cold for fine hand stuff right now or I'll get frost bite myself.

Look at those crazy wattles! Maybe my guy is just weirdly wattled as well. Is Willie currently getting winter dubbed? If not this year how did that end up? He's got a gorgeous eye doesn't he.

Yes, this year. That was taken a couple weeks ago, swelling has gone down and he appears to be fine-doing all his 'duties'. Will be very curious to see how much he loses, never seen that much 'white' between the red and black before.

ETA: I'd suggest 14ga 1x2 cage wire on bottom of isolation crate,
big enough for most poops to go thru and small enough for decent footing.

Foamy poop is definitely not a normal poop... in mine that means they need to be dewormed... get him isolated and monitored, see if it is just him producing those or if others are as well... if you can get your vet to do a fecal float at least, do that first for sure...

I wouldn't start anything *just yet*, you don't want to give them an antibiotic if it's not necessary... but treating is up to you, some people prefer to not treat/deworm, some do...

If he is doing ok otherwise, then I would wait on treatment to see if you can get fecal done, etc... couldn't hurt to look into getting dewormer and/or Denagard in your supplies though, just in case...
