I thought I heard our hen sneeze a couple times during that past week or so......

Now I'm sure of it......

Is this serious?.....what can I do to help her get better?.......

Mr Dad, Is your name Murphy? I can't believe the trouble your are going through. It stinks when one is so caring and just runs into one thing after another. You can find several antibiotic for animals at your feed stores. I have never had sneezes yet, thank the Lord, so I don't want to recommend one. Check out the diseases forum and you might try the orginal BYC Ez Board, I know it is a topic that comes up regularly.

Hang in there Dad, and tell your dear wife that it is usually not this much trouble to own chickens, all the people at BYC said so. Bless you my man you are one of a kind.

I would just keep an eye on her, see if she goes off her food, stands puffed up or has any drainage. I have one that has sneezed since she was tiny, sometimes its nothing more than the bird. Most of my flock will sneeze when the weather keeps bouncing back & forth but once it stabilizes it goes back to just being the one.

Thanks......

Think I should keep an eye on here and hold off on the friend for now?......

We were gonna pick up another hen tonight....

If its OK with the folks you're getting the friend from then I'd wait for a few days to see how she does.

Has your weather been bouncing between cold & warm, dry and soaked? That's the scenario that will get some of my flock to start the sneezing.

Yes....

Real feel was below zero....then it went to 20, 40, over fifty....

Now we're heading back to the zero 'real feel'.....

Rain/snow/ice as well over the past few weeks.....

I let her out for a while this morning...she's back in the basement now.....

We'll talk to them about waiting....I kinda figured that may be a good idea.....

Thanks

Gosh Mr. Dad, I hope she gets over her sneezles quick!
Out of curiosity, could anyone tell me if this would be one of the times one would consider using vinegar in the waterer to help the chicken get better?

She lives in the basement? There is another member who had a new roo that she kept seperated in her basement for quarantine, he did some of that. It could either be the basement environment or the taking outside to a totally different environment that is triggering it too.

She stated noticing that when she took him onto the warm deck he began sneezing, seems like he sneezed too. Wes suggested the big switch might be doing it to him. He's now out with the entire flock happy and very healthy.

Just for the past few nights....

We lost two to a predator and I don't have a secure coop yet....anyway it's a long story.....I'm keeping her in the basement at night, and now with the zero temps I let her out for about an hour and then back down to warm up for a few....

It's a juggling routine.....I'm sure the basement isn't the ideal...but right now I'm afraid she wont make it through the night outside after losing the other two.....

This weekend I'm going to get moving on a real coop....
