It's weird how the weather patterns have been this winter. My mom's cousin in Texas recently sent us pictures of their blizzard.... and in response we sent her pictures of our green grass and sunshine. I'm just hoping we don't end up with a hard dry spring/summer.

We moved up here from Arvada in July and that's what we always got down there in Jeffco was the call early in the morning but the last couple times we've gotten the night before robocalls. We've had more snow days in the last 3 years than my older kids or I ever had in Arvada the last 30 years.

So, you think the plains are cooler than the Arvada? I'm sure it's just me but, I don't consider it cold until we get into the teens and, when it's below zero, I drive to work with ski pants on

It's windier.Much windier. It gets bad up here. And I think that makes it colder in my book. So today it's about 28* with winds at about 20 mph. That's cold. And it's been in the teens plenty here over the past couple months. Below 0 a few times.

Is more windy than, say, at 93 and 72? That's our canyon (coal creek).

I think we only got into the teens at night and, then, fairly infrequently up here.

I so wanted a White Christmas - it would have been my first, ever. I was PROMISED snow when I moved up here, the kind that looks pretty falling but rarely sticks. If it does stick - supposedly - it only lasts for a day or two at the most.

But nada. Zip. Zero. No snow.

Here in ND it was -17 two weeks ago (with 24 mph winds gusting to 31 mph), the last few days were in the 40's (above zero). Very little snow on the ground... It's a welcome relief for now, just hope it isn't as dry over the summer.

Quite a few years ago, I used to live in unincorporated Jeffco, at Quaker and 54th or so - I used to pick up the bus to Boulder at 93 and 72nd ..... WINDY!!! and cold!!! We had looked at living up Coal Creek just a ways.....

Now we are down here in SW Texas, and the drought is terrible - everything is dying. We haven't had measurable moisture since October, and then it was only an inch. In the past year, we've had about 3 inches and thats all. Quality alfalfa is going for $20/bale for small bales.... I don't have chicks yet, but its getting really expensive to feed my horses (4) and goats (11, with more on the way)..........

I'd be interested in any suggestions from other folks on money saving techniques for keeping chickens during a drought!!!
