Snow - Pics and videos

They were really struggling so I tred to help...can you say panic mode! So, I let them trudge over and rest under a Maple for a while. Once they got used to it, they were fine. Although I'm pretty sure they blame me for the snow.

Duckies going snow bobbing. My dogs do the same when it gets deep. 3 years ago we had 6 feet of snow. My husband thought it was funny to snow blow path ways in the field criss crossing each other. He kept up with it as the snow was getting deeper and deeper and it was funny so see the dogs running wild in their maze. Perhaps he does something like that for the ducks. Na, probably not. Right now it is snowing hard outside. We are supposed to get 7" tonight.

Wild - Elliot and Oliver are awesome! We have a Rouen and 3 Mallards...we are hoping the Rouen is a drake. Still can't tell.

Katherina - I have set up wind breaks all around the duck's run. It is also 3/4 covered for the winter. We aren't getting the wind they are getting elsewhere so far and the NWS is not calling for it in our area.....praying it stays away. Still snowing off and on. They are calling for 1F tomorrow night. 17F during the day. They are in a 4x4x4 duck house with about 8"of bedding and totally out of the wind. Will they be OK tomorrow night or should I bring them in? I'm pretty sure I am going to bring the chickens in. They spent the whole day in their coop today and it was 32F. Came out every now and then to see what the ducks were up to, but that was it.

Not sure what to do in such cold weather.....and again I ask....I moved here from the northeast, why?

So you moved away from the north east to get away from hot humid summers and those darn noreasters in winter. Used to live in Maryland, and quite honest I like it here better. I like the dry summers you can enjoy outdoors. I went to SLC a couple of years ago. I vividly remember how nasty smelling that big lake is.

It's very nice out there. We went up into the mountains too. We spent 3 days and it was very nice.
I would bring my ducks in too, just to be safe. I plan on pumping up the heater in my duck house tomorrow night for the -3 in the forecast.

Lol...our big salty lake does stink. But fortunately I don't live close enough to it to worry. Please don't let that detur you from visiting though. Just do what all us locals do...avoid the lake

Katharinad your Saxony's are absolutely beautiful. Is there someplace out west here to source them? I would LOVE to add a few to my little flock. Any help is appreciated.

Holderread has them. I can also send you some eggs in spring, if you don't mind to cover the shipping expense. Hope you have an incubator.

Umm...yeah, no incubator. Not sure I'm ready for that step. I would however happily buy and cover shipping for a few juveniles. Do you raise them and sell them that way?

I have never shipped ducklings, that would be a new one. These are my personal pet ducks. Holderread does ship ducklings. I tell you hatching is not that bad, it is actually fun and you have a much bigger bond with them. Well you still have time until spring to make your decision.
