One of this summer's young males - we call him The Ostrich because he's taller than our tom, TurkZilla

oh hey Brunty Farms! i was thinking of your big turkey processing adventure just the other day -- and golly i think i passed along your contact over here to someone else. you're famous!

yep we were right on the edge of The Big Snow -- probably about 4+ inches and just as it started to squish down and melt.. here it comes again. sigh.

we're south and east of columbus
:)

hows about that young turk? he's a beaut. we'll keep him as the sire for a couple of hens. we ended up having 3 males and then 5 hens...and we still have the 6 poults from Bramble's late summer hatch.

:)

thanks Sharon!

today they finally got over their snow-hatin' and stayed outside almost the whole day. when we got the first round of snow they woudlnt even come out!

:)

He looks powerful... how did they handle the snow?

My BR turkeys were babies: "i'm not going out there in that white stuff". Later they all tooled through the snow a few times, but basically just hung out by the barn.

well the first day they all hid in their house like the chickens. then they started venturing out. now we cant keep them inside!

i think they are pretty darn winter hardy but we are not letting our late season hatchers out - they are almost as big as their momma but i dont want them to get chilled. we keep getting rain/snow mix. yikes!

interestingly, they are making a TON of mud! there was a spot over by the house that wasnt snowed on and now it looks like the pigs (RIP or RIF - rest in freezer) have been rolling in that spot!

the young ducks were the cutest... they were catching the snowflakes and eating them like little bugs!
