So addicted! Set eggs 10/14/11! Who's my buddy?

I have set 36 eggs so far, since Saturday night. My turner didn't work as I went to set it up.

I had to buy a new one. I could have gotten one for 9.99. But the shipping was another 10.00

and they only offered the slow shipping by donkey train. The company I bought from wanted 14.95 for the same motor, and 10.00 for Priority shipping. So I paid the other 5 bucks for faster shipping. I hate spending money on shipping, when I know that the company could put it in a Priority envelope and send it for 4.95.

Oh well the bator will be nearly new by the time I am done putting parts into it. I think it would have been cheaper to have bought a brand new one.

Well I have been rolling the eggs by hand, I finally got the egg turner back together again. I went ahead and put the eggs in it. It is easier to to turn all the eggs with the turner. So it will work until the motor arrives. I am just scared that I am going to forget to turn the eggs enough.

When I put the eggs in to the turner, I found that one of the eggs was cracked. I went ahead and opened it over the sink. The egg was not fertile. So I may have a whole bator full of nothing. I usually wait a week to candle. I also have some Marans eggs in the bator. I just don't know if I will be able to see through the dark shell.

So that is where I am at.

We just started a poultry club today we have 20 members so far. We are looking to challenge our city laws about chickens. Currently they are not banned BUT you MUST own/live on 3 acres of property if you want any chickens at all.which is lame.who really owns 3+ acres in a city? I'm lucky to have a backyard!

I have to keep my girls at my moms house because she lives 15 miles out of town.

Where are you located? I am able to have chicken in my city. I live in Washington State. I don't expect to have any troubles as long as the neighbors are cool with the birds. I do have more than I should.

But I talked the the neighbors today, and so far there are no objections to my having a roo.

I just wished that I had asked them before I sent Homer to the auction.

I must say I wouldn't mind having 3 acres in town.

I set eggs on the 14th, too! 29 silkie eggs.
We've been waiting for some eggs to eat as they were born in March...and have 5 hens, and apparently when it rains it pours, so suddenly...like literally the same day, except one that started 2 months ago, we got bombarded with eggs.
Could we eat 30 eggs? Nah. So I bought a LG instead, and here we go!
I just candled this morning, and nearly all are growing. I think 3 might be duds, but since it's so early, I'll wait another 5 days before checking.
Either way, whoohoo!

I candled last night (3 days) for the first time!

I was excited!

From 22 eggs, only three were questionable in my opinion. One may be forming a blood ring, one had a blood spot and one is very porous. Otherwise, I could see veins in all of them. I candled just one night earlier and the veins had not been visible at all!

That makes me happy because I didn't have very high hopes for the eBay eggs to start developing at all. I've been impressed, too, with how well the HovaBator I bought is holding steady with the temp and humidity!

Again, this is my first time!

I live in south dakota. You were to think since the majority of land here is still rancher/farmer owned that we could have chickens but nope. We have a few rich guys that live out of town that still makes complaints so it won't happen.
