First come first serve IMO, I've been burnt several times by no shows.

I've had this happen before and I've also done it by mistake before as well. I always feel terrible when it happens, but I will not go and take the animal back once I have sold or given it away to someone else. As long as the person isn't rude or anything, I will try my hardest to help them out with an alternative. Usually this happens as a mistake or I feel someone isn't being trustworthy in coming to pick up the animal. I've been burned so many times with no shows or people who say they will take an animal and then come back and tell me they won't. Now I usually demand a deposit to hold anything. If this should happen again you could always offer a deposit on even a free animal. They you'd be more likely to get it. However, I do agree with what the others have said and think you should try to save up for a well bred bassett hound. Too many of them have terrible health problems!

We have a litter once a year to further our Show lines, and all the money we get from the litter goes straight to vet bills, shots, dogs food, de-worming, and paper towels haha.
The running joke is, that if your making money off of breeding dogs your not doing something right! XD

That's part of the issue I have with CKC. The whole point is "pups will be worth more money" All of the breeders I've had contact with that are ConKC fall into a few categories:

1) the dog isn't eligible to be registered because it's a stray or the background is unknown for other reasons

2) the dog isn't eligible because it was sold on a limited registration

3) the breeder has been banned from registering with AKC (and that takes a LOT)

Is everyone who registers ConKC like this? No, but I don't want any of my money going to support an organization that encourages those kind of breeders.
