So has anyone received the stimulus money yet?

July 11th:( Long time to wait and almost all is going to student loans. I'll spend some on chickens though. I'm gonna pre-spend some at the chicken swap this weekend:) I really want an incubator so I can try hatching my own eggs. I've been watching them on ebay. Or if I can get my cds, dvds, ect. sold on ebay I'll use that money for it. lol

I just went and read that article.... I didn't know that about next years refund. Just like the government.....

I did see that you wouldn't "owe" the irs if the amount is above your qualified refund... It says you get to "keep the difference"..... Hmmmmm....

From the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=182003,00.html

Q
. Is my stimulus payment taxable?

A. No. You will not owe tax on your payment when you file your 2008 federal income tax return. But you should keep a copy of the IRS letter you receive later this year listing the amount of your payment.

Q. If my stimulus payment is not going to affect my 2008 tax refund or increase the tax I owe next year, why is it I need to retain the letter that lists how much I received?

A. In the event you do not qualify for the full amount on your 2007 return but you do on your 2008 return, you will need to have the letter as a record of the amount you previously received. [New 4/11/08]

Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?

A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

I am putting my refund or stimulous whatever you want to call it towards a new pellet stove. The price of heating oil is just to crazy for me. Right now it is about $380.00 for 100 gallons.

Do you heat with oil or propane, cause that sounds like the propane around here. Lucky DH got us a metered tank and we only pay for what we use. I am thankful that we are not under a different co-op as well my co-worker's power bill run 300-600 a month winter-summer. I would have a stroke. i came from Duke Power country and never new about co-op rates, boy do i now. We are lucky.Power runs about 150-280 in summer and about 40-60 in winter. All appliances are gas even dryer. So by the time you add gas into equation it's around the same as summer. have you looked at the heatmor systems. They are outside your home and the heat comes thru vents, like central heat. link to it www.countrysidemag.com . Good Luck!!!!

Thanks for the informative post, terrielacy. The article I read was from CNNMoney.... seemed like a reliable source, but you never know these days..
