So he tells me, "Babe, I'm just not that into..."

My DH is really supportive most of the time. He built me a coop and brooder over the weekend. He actually surprised me with a bunch of baby quail! He is helping me turn part of the barn into a chicken coop and run.

HOWEVER!!!! He is really ticked about all the eggs I bought and am incubating. So he was a MAJOR grump yesterday.

I knew he was the man for me when he told me that he brought home a mountain lion for a pet. He said she was just a "kitty"! I didn't get to meet her as it was long ago... But any man who has a mountain lion named Sheba who adored him... well. He can handle a few chickens!

He is worse about bringing home animals than me. At the mustang makeover last year, he bought two mustangs which we didn't need... but now love.

My kids hate all the animals we have though. They like the chicks but are really city kids at heart.

I saw after I posted that something is in the works, but It'll probably be nice for you and the birds not to have to share space

And then he told me about the plans he's been thinking about for a 16x20 shed, and where we'd put it and how we'd do the run.

And I sat in the yard, and watched the big chickens and the teenagers interact, while the new kids hung out in their cage and tasted the grass and bugs, and the hatchlings played in their sheltered area. And the cats came up for love, and to help me watch the chickens, and there was peace!

Yes, Boyd, he has a garage & a shed. And a large flat screen TV with surround sound in the living room. He is not neglected!
But it will be nice to not have to share space with chickens.

Mine wasn't crazy about chickens, until the hundreds of ant hills in our backyard started disappearing. We actually have GRASS in the backyard now. It's only been a year, i'm up to 9 birds (mostly buff orps), and hubby is almost as crazy about them as i am.

Yes, DH & I observed the same thing our first spring with chickens. It was really cool to realize that our teenage chicks were chomping up those pests as soon as they tried to take to the air to swarm.

This year looks to be even worse for ants. We're amazed at the # of anthills we've seen, even around the chicken coop. I can't imagine what it would be like without the chickens! I don't like using poisons...

Sweetshoplady, I think we've come up with a way for me to have my chicken addiction without keeping them in the house. And now that DH is talking like he'd help me build the shed... Well, I'm even happier. I can live without incubating for a couple of months. May have to anyway since the potential buyer for my millie pullets hasn't called me back. And I kind of like the little cuties!
