We were looking at Zane's hock joint tonight and found infection/fluid building up above the place we were draining from, at the top of the joint. We made a new incision, just big enough to get lots of infection out, but my DH is in back crisis with a pinched nerve and post-kidney stone recovery right now and can't do much more. I suppose Zane will go on another round of antibiotics and we'll change to a different one this time. Poor boy has been through so much.

He has been though much, but he does seem to be doing well. He seems willing to pull through and you seem willing to help him fight. Another round of antibiotics and some more hoping and praying. I think he'll get there.

Thanks, Kim. Yep, he seems to want to fight for himself so we'll keep on trying. I love this rooster so much. I see Hawkeye in him more every day.

Not again. I am so sorry, Cyn. Hopefully the next round of antibiotics will kick this. Have you tried to ask the doc what he thinks? I think it's time to get some sound advice on this. There has to be a reason for this localized infection to be coming back. Poor boy.

No, I haven't consulted Doc about this one. I know he's been under the weather and he's just now starting to catch up on his site, I see. If the next round doesn't fix it for good, I'll contact him.

Cyn, am finally back onsite. Haven't read all posts. However, description of Zane's wound reminds me of something was still being taught in Army medic training in the early `70's: Sulfa powder in osteomyelitic wounds. I apologize if this has already been suggested.

Sounds like it might be worthwhile to "catch" that drainage and have it cultured. Then you'd finally know what specific organism you are dealing with and exactly which drug will likely give the best results.

The sulfa sounds like it would be a good one. I'll be praying hard that this boy gets over whatever this mess is this time around. I'm so sorry. I know that it has to be disheartening.
