What’s wrong with my hen Red?

Upon my research I’m finding that aquasol and the goat dewormer are both 10% fenbendazole. So I’m unsure if I need to buy something else or if I should just give her the dose of Aquasol directly?

Just found the skin on her crop is half purple?
Poor thing! Looks like she may have suffered an injury of some type, this may be a contributor of her not feeling well.

Not sure how both can be 10% Fenbendazole when Aquasol© is 200mg/mL and Safeguard Goat Dewormer is 100mg/mL. Maybe some kind of funny new math I've never heard of.

I suppose you can use the Aquasol© if you wish, you'll just want to calculate out the correct dose at 50mg/kg.

Yes that’s why I haven’t separated her because she is still part of the flock. She gets treats (I do 5 grain scratch [which I limit so they still want to eat their feed] and mealworms. The only thing I’d separate at this point is to see if she’s laying or not and maybe to monitor her waste. But I’ll leave her for now.

Ok I’ll run to the feed store this morning for the dewormer. Is it ok to give it to her with the tums? Do you know if there’s a withdrawal period with it incase she is laying?

Lol yes trying to get crushed bits in a syringe is difficult and not enjoyable for anyone.

Thank you for your help. She’s one of my original flock so she holds special space in our hearts.
You seem very knowledgable. If you don’t mind me asking, do you have veterinary medicine background or just seasoned in chicken keeping?

Again, grateful for your input.

Oh and also, yes her crop seems to be normal. Empty in the morning and full at night.

Goodness I misspoke- I haven’t been giving vagisil- I’ve been doing Monistat aka miconazole. I’ll give that to her orally also

That’s what I’m hoping is she just fell off of something just right and got banged up. Ill keep monitoring it.

Who knows. I was trying to figure out what I have and rapid researching trying to figure out what was what lol. 🫠 I’m no expert lol. I felt very flustered this morning.
But I did end up finding the 100mg cream and calculated it for her individual weight.

Thanks for your help. I hope she feels better soon!

Safeguard Equine Paste is also 10% Fenbendzole at 100mg/mL, so dosing is the same as the Goat Dewomer at 50mg/kg or 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once daily for 5days in a row.

I hope she starts to feel better soon!

Safeguard Liquid Goat Dewormer 10%. Give her a dose at a rate of 0.23ml per pound of weight orally once daily for 5days in a row. This will treat most all worms that poultry can have except for Tapeworms.

That’s actually what I picked up (the equine). I saw they were the same dose as well.
Thank you!

Update on Red. Finished dewormer on Friday. Did clotrimazole 2% orally for 4 days.
She is now keeping away from the flock. Not eating treats. I witnessed another flock mate peck her so I’ve just come in from separating her and getting her set up in a dog kennel in the greenhouse.
Her crop has food and water in it, not bulging but full. Her butt is yucky again. I’ll clean her up first thing in the morning because I don’t want her to have any dampness come nighttime. She has pooped on this puppy pad that I have under so I can try to watch her poops. The urate is a yellow green color. Her comb is starting to become darker than her norm. Almost with a purpleish tint. I took a picture next to her sister for comparison.
What I’m finding from googling the yellow green urate and the comb color is potential liver failure, and not getting enough oxygen (heart failure/respiratory stress).

Is there anything else I can try to do?…

I don’t have $300 to just take her to the vet unfortunately. Just trying my best to do what I can.

If the crop is not emptying and is sour, give the Miconazole for a full 7days twice a day.

She may have something reproductive going on as well, it can be hard to know. Yellow urates can be due to liver and/or reproductive problems.
Her crop is emptying because in the morning it’s flat but I know she’s still eating since there’s food in the crop at the end of the day. My point there was to ensure she’s still eating and drinking.

That’s my fear is reproductive thing inside. I’m going to start the calcium citrate and D3 tomorrow )In my panic I completely forgot about it and someone else also suggested it tonight). I ran out just 5 minutes ago and gave her a tums for a little calcium kick until I can run to town tomorrow.
Ugh I hope she feels better.

Ah yes, I see you have another thread. Hopefully the calcium will help.
