Hiya Cyn... I had not been following Zanes progress and have just come in at the end of this... I have a full day today but will continue to search info for you in the hope that it might be of some use...
re the the article posted by ivan please note:"
"...When used locally, even with the much higher concentration of either sulfanilamide or sulfathiazole obtained in the proximate tissue, no effect upon the healing of the wound edges is demonstrable although the presence of packed clumps of powder in deeper tissues or separating skin edges
may mechanically delay healing..."
Please read this(
in particular the section on Degenerative Joint Disease) and make note of the references to lavage and debridement and use of chlorhexiodine... which I have also incl a second internet link below ) :

",,,,Debridement and lavage, with chlorhexidine at a 0.05% solution being considered to provide optimal results, are required for all wounds. Many topical medications are used to manage open wounds in raptors, including recently developed wound-healing stimulants...."

(ETA > you have mentioned several times your financial restrictions ... if this continues to be a problem then note the basic
recquirement and technique for lavage and debridement... For topical treatment of the wound if you are unable to find /get the suggested meds then as a last ditch effort please refer to the articles on hoeney and sugar dressings for uulcerated wounds here (note >AFTER proper lavage and debridement) this is in addition to systemic medication and not as replacement for it:
