so I go to the auction

Well I will confess the carton wasn't marked and there were a dozen of different kinds of eggs they read off. I said I wanted the barred rocks and took the carton they gave me. I assure you if I every buy hatching eggs there again I will look at the carton before I take it. Now I know we all have a soiled egg from time to time, but I have never had or sold ones as soiled as these.
Any eggs I get that have the "grease" mark after cleaning I keep for myself. Just as I do small or misshapened eggs. I keep two cartons in the fridge that say "OURS" on top so the family knows.

I have to confess it is nice to be on this forum and find I'm not alone in my nerosis about clean eggs.

Love ya

Well, my hens can get their eggs really dirty! They love to go play in the mud right before laying, so they wipe all that mud and stuff on the eggs.

That said, I sell hatching eggs at auctions. I wash all my eggs, and I have had people tell me they would love to buy my eggs, but they don't want them cleaned. I just tell them they had better get to my house when I collect them or they will be washed.

I don't like to buy dirty eggs, either. I still set eggs that have stains on them. I get a 90 to 100% hatch consistently.

At auctions, if you are there before it begins, you usually can look at everything they are selling. I always open the cartons of eggs to look at them.

I hope you get a good hatch and lots of pullets!!!!
