Get this book. Read the book. I am completely serious. This book changed the way I looked at smoking and on March 13 last year I woke up a non smoker and haven't had one since. On March 12th I smoked three packs and was a habitual 2-2&1/2 pack a day smoker. The next morning I just didn't have one. That simple. No drugs, no tricks, no patches. Nothing.
and yes, I gained 30 pounds, but that's going to come off again when I'm ready and I'm still healthier than I was as a smoker. I have save over $3000 so far since quitting.
Good luck. I recently quit. Glad I did. Its been about 2 months. Boy was it hard. I didnt smoke alot, only about 3 a day, but The biggest thing, I dont like to be ruled by anything. I believe in you. I believe you can quit. As far as the weight I have gained 10 pounds. Could be just winter weight, right? Anyways just keep going, it gets easier. I am rooting for you.
I quit smoking along with my wife today. She has already had a cigarette but I plan to stick with it and not smoke. I have been smoking since I was approximately 10 years old and will be 35 this month. Does anyone have suggestions to help me keep from smoking, I am already missing the things I do with my hands and want to stop. Any tips or help would be so greatly appreciated. Heck even a word of encouragement helps. I know I am doing the right thing but it sure don't feel like I am.
When I quit, it was difficult. When my ex-gf quit, she found that breathing really made a difference and the urge to smoke disappears after a few minutes. She found that to be very odd. Take deep breaths and almost immediately, the sensation of wanting to smoke faded to nothing. Whether she did it or not, the desire to smoke disappeared after a couple of minutes anyway, but breathing made it go away much sooner.
The easiest thing is to not buy cigarettes. If you have nothing to smoke, it's way easier not to smoke
. Good job! I've been a smoker for 20+ years..( DON'T JUDGE ME!) lol. I've tried everything to help quit...the only time I quit cold turkey is when I found out I was preggers. The one thing I do is never t smoked my house..car or anywhere my children could be affected. Dh is a smoker too and we almost got divorced when we quit together..I plan on quitting again soon..I'm making dh do it with me..good or bad we have to stop...we stay away from each other when we try..I clean like a maniac..cook like crazy and I'm real obnoxious ( yes even more!) lol. I wish you the very best luck...
One of my uncles quit a few years ago and to help ease him out he cut straws the length of cigarettes and whenever he had an urge to smoke he pulled one out. He's never gone back and I haven't seen him using the straws in a long time, so I think it worked. It's an idea, since you mentioned missing things with your hands.
You can do this. It may be one of the hardest things you have ever done, but YOU can do it. I quit drinking and that was difficult - gaining freedom from nicotine was far more difficult. One day at a time - there are on-line support groups for nicotine cessation. My son in law used one when he quit dip. For your hands - get one of those smooth 'worry stones' and just keep fiddling with it. Good luck and know that all are pulling for your success.
