So I went to church for the first time in years...

MeatKing - we bring some cheerios, graham crackers, raisins, etc. The kids also like it when I bring little handheld toys like Fisher Price's Little People. Our church has little fabric bags with a coloring book, crayons, and a book in each bag. Just pick it up before service starts and return it afterwards. If your church doesn't have it just bring some. I wouldn't worry about your kids making noise. I take my kids out if they decide it's a good time to throw a fit. I talk with them and they settle down and we go back in. Other than that, I don't think anyone minds. Try not to worry yourself too much. They are little afterall.

God is funny isn't he...

He creates all these religions, churches, cults, personalities, races, social classes, etc etc etc,

Then he throws us all together and says have fun, enjoy one another, enjoy mother nature, enjoy chickens,
and somehow we all seem to make a great big mess of it.

Your experience, on a personal level, is an example of everything he teaches, regardless of all of the above.
Tolerance, patience, compassion, love, understanding, how, where, when, why do I fit in this world....

Thanks for sharing the lesson, and thanks for all for the insights, it taught me something today...

Hugh

Oh, me too. Maybe it's a bit of social awkwardness left over from being shy as a child....I always forget the names part! Then I remember within about 3 steps of leaving. Now I feel like an idiot and don't want to draw attention to that fact...so I keep going and hope no one notices.

Well, of course they must. "What a strange woman! Friendly, but strange....".
Please, for me. Just forgive the poor lady.

Or worse. lol I once asked a guy his name as he was leaving (just because I wanted to know it when I saw him again, ya know?) and he seriously thought I was flirting with him, gave me his number and everything!

So maybe it's better not to ask. lol

It is true that she was a little rude, but I wouldn't worry about it. She was just trying to strike up a conversation, methinks. Not all church folks are like this, so please don't worry about it.

I agree I wouldn't worry so much about it but I don't agree with your statement that most church people are 'like this'.

Generalizations like this regarding groups of people promotes narrow-mindedness, bigotry and intolerance. There's enough of that in the World already, don't you think?
Making a broad statement about most church people being rude is like saying most anime enthusiasts are living in a fantasy world and out of touch with reality. Now, we all can agree that that is a biased and rude statement.
Just sayin'. Please be respectful.

I did not mean to say something so rude like that. I'll go and change it.

I know you didn't mean to sound rude, you're a nice girl. We all say things that come out wrong sometimes. Heck, I live with my right foot about 3 inches from my mouth most of the time.

Most of the time the people most disturbed about a child's behavior (or lack thereof) in church are the parents. The rest of us usually get a kick out of a child dancing to a hymn, playing peekaboo with someone in the row behind or making an outrageously cute remark during the sermon that is heard all over the church.

Our church stocks busy bags for young children. They have small story/picture books, crayons & colouring & activity books, cards for lacing and a few other quiet things that keep kids occupied; most, but not all are religiously themed. I used to go to the Christian book store and get inexpensive bible story booklets and activity pages for my sons. They had picture bibles so they could look through them. Older son had read his Picture Story Bible through twice by the time he was in 2nd or 3rd grade. Younger son read and re-read the story of David and Goliath about a thousand times.
