So in the middle of the night some random person wrote a message on my front door

on the 'No Soliciting' sign. The sign's on the front door, put there in an attempt to try to somewhat curb the plethora of door-to-door soliciting during the usual hours. Sometime between 2-4 A.M. a person was creeping around the exterior of my house and wrote a note on the sign in ink pen. Creepy.

Perhaps, 'No canvassing or door to door salespeople' would have been better. You may have offended a lady of the night!

The note they wrote said, quote, "We're here for YOU!!!" I've been awakened around 4 a.m. to noises the last few nights. One of the noises sounded like it was at my bedroom window, as though trying to push the window open, and I awoke to it with quite a start but heard nothing else after that.

Jesting side, I understand your feelings on this.

Are you able to fence off your front garden?

We use lights as one of our deterrents - they illuminate all of the ground floor entrances. Once I locate a shop that sells movement sensors, we shall have, instead, flood lights installed. A light suddenly switching on will put off most ne'er-do-wells.

I seems to be a prank depending on what the person wrote.

You need to take some action if the disturbance is regular.

Is the crime rate high in your area or is it just kids mucking around? The timing is interesting. We are usually at our deepest sleep around 3.00am and that's a favourite time for intruders. Again on security, we have security grills at each window and door. They are decorative as well as functional to keep my wife happy. It's important to make sure that you still have easy exit from strategic points in case of fire.

I hope this resolves itself soon, especially as you are often alone. I really would start to do something about security, just in case.

I have bright lights in the front and back of my house, which are kept on all night to deter, but the backyard lights do not light up my whole entire backyard. My yard is block fenced from the edge of the front of my house extending to enclose the backyard, with 6' high block fencing, and there is also a bright street light in my front yard. This evening there were 4 police cars a few houses down the street from my house and also driving the area. Perhaps I should report the activity at my house last night.

The police presence suggests that other people may have been disturbed and reported it. In your shoes, I would report it to the police too.

I don't know whether you have this where you live, but in the UK police will patrol past your home during the night as a deterrent if there's been a suspected attempt to enter. In Thailand, we can pay a monthly fee for a twice daily patrol. These arrangements are no guarantee but they show that citizens aren't just doing nothing and may deter whoever is up to no good.

Is that window vulnerable?
