so mad at feed store

You are a wonderful person not only to be helping those chicks, but for being incensed at how they were treated and about the manager's attitude. And for planning to do something about it. Defenseless beings need somebody to stand up for them - good for you. Report the bad dude and don't let up. All the chicks should be immediately rescued from that place (and ideally photographed first). Thank you for whatever you can do.

I think the manager was upset with me too because I hassled him around the store asking him to get me the chicks! I told him they were soaking wet and I told everyone who was lookin at the chicks that they were being treated horrible! I stood there my the cage with a frown on my face and it looked like I was about to explode! ALl the employees were lookin at me like I was an stupid. I didnt care because I was soo ticked.

My local TSC is just as bad. They were never cared for properly, and when I asked if any were left on my trip there for feed, the girl at the register practically yelled, in from of 10 customers. "Thank God we don't have to look at those nasty smelly beasts again til next spring". I'm sorry, but you WORK in a FEED STORE. Geez.. I'll bet she's employee of the month.

I actually reported a pet store one time. They had all these poor sick guinea pigs, and I was the sucker trying to save them. I finally reported them to the local SPCA. The next few times I went in (just to see how the piggies were) everybody was healthy

I do not regret doing it, and I would do it again.

I can tell you that not all feed stores and TSC's are neglegent. I work at TSC, and everybody in there cares about the chicks, even if they don't know how to care for them. We remove chicks that get picked on (meaning I take them home

), and clean them daily.

Thanks for saving the chicks!

I was at a feed store that also often has kittens for adoption. One day I noticed they had no food and NO WATER. These beautiful babies were reaching their little arms through the cage to try to touch my hand. I let the folks on duty know that the kittens needed food and water (it was obvious the staff hadn't noticed) and yes, also got ' the look', then myself washed and refilled their water dishes right then and there so as to emphasize the urgency. The poor little ones immediately began to guzzle the water. Inexcusable the way so many humans treat innocent helpless beings.

We have a family owned feed store where I live. Thank goodness they treat the birds right there. All though I wouldn't haven't put turkey chicks and chickens in the same pen(due to gapeworm).
Those chicks are lucky you saved them.

I know the feeling very well my DW and I were at the feed store the other day we just went to get some feed that is it, then she heard it, the peeps from the other room so she said "we can look we just won't buy any" well lil did she know I was wanting to buy a few 3-4 at the "MOST" just to round off my flock, so we went into the room and their they were, crammed into this little brooder cage so tight the ones in the one side couldn't even get to the food I will explain how bad it was I put some feed in my hand and held it up to them and they attacked it like they have never seen food before...Well the wife looked at me and now we have 12 new chicks I only wanted 3-4 at the "MOST". I couldn't let those little chicks starve anymore I would have bought them all if I could have But as it is now I must rebuild everything.
I have already expanded the coop/run and the roost so that's done now I am working on the brooder I have them in one big enough they have room in right now butttttt soon enough they won't though. They were so hungry the first night they finished off the feeder with feed all the way to the top of 1 qrt jug in a matter of a couple hours I thought they were gonna be sick but no everyones is alright and running around flapping their wigs like yeahhhh we have room now look

,I hate it when feed stores do not take care of the chicks I understand they are there to make money and sell the chicks but dang take care of them at least while you have them I just wonder what they do with them all if they don't sell........on second thought no I don't wanna know....

Poor chicks. I'm glad you saved some of them. Great job!

This is my first year with chickens so this is news to me although I'm not surprised, having worked in dog rescue for years. People are thoughtless creatures, some of them.

Our local Wilco must be a very good feed store. I was wondering how they managed to make it not smell and not look like the chicks were pooping when I was there. I'm glad that is where we purchased our chicks as nobody had pasty butt, the food and water looked great and they had plenty of room. They seem to sell them very quickly.

Remember these are the lucky chickens not being used in battery cages.
