so mad at feed store

Was this a locally owned place or a franchise? I would absolutely report them; that's out right animal abuse/neglect. It's so great that you saved what you could, but I would also follow up with this. Those babies are relying on good hearts such as yours. Call the owner, go above his/her head if necessary. Don't let these jerks continue to neglect poor baby animals. Also, tell everyone you know, so word gets around!

I go to Atwoods. They are wonderful with their birds. They actually have a woman who works there that takes all the sick and weak home to raise.

My local co-op ( Huron Bay.... where i got my chicks / ducks ) makes you order the chicks / and pay ahead of time... that way all birds that come in are paid / accounted for!!...and all chicks are picked up the day they arrive... they call these special days " chick days " and they put them on so many times a month between April and July...

I hate to say this but if there wasnt a market for them the 'dime a dozen' feed stores wouldnt sell them.

So yell it from the top of the buildings and into the ear of everyone you know when you see badly treated birds. Buy elsewhere!

I will try to do something about this! I mean, the manager didnt even care! ahhh Im still sooo mad! My chicks are doin fine though. Anyone have pics of d uccle chicks?

I have two local feed stores, the one in town is part of the Cenex chain, and they are great, good prices, and conscientious care for the chicks they order from Privett. The one in the next town is a private operation where they sell puppy mill dogs, tend to neglect the chicks, have high prices and tried to intimidate me when I returned an overpriced thermometer. I got my four GLW babies at the Cenex, they are happy and healthy. I'm glad that you rescued those poor soggy babies, and agree with the rest, please continue to follow through on the problem.

DH and I were at a TSC before Easter and they had gobs of baby chicks. There was one that I decided to buy out of pity because it had poop built up on its behind the size of a ping pong ball. Poor baby couldn't even poop anymore. What is worse is that a employee was talking to some people next to me and he reached into the bin and grabbed a chick to show the people. He stands there and puts the chick on his open flat palm and of course the chick hops off into the bin and breaks its leg and is crying like crazy so he took it in the back and said he had to put it down. This just made me sick. Don't they teach those guys how to properly handle baby chicks?

I understand how it feels joe. Usually I go and mangle a leaf, dead ones work best, if you can find any,

they make a satisfying crackle. At least the chicks were alive and not close to death. My Dad had to go and do CPR on one of our chickens last summer
