So mad I could scream!

So sorry for your loss, bad dog owners give good dog owners a bad name. I hope your local animal control took note of her and checks on her other dogs odds are the others she has will be a problem also.

Mr. Jack was a brave and handsome boy who died protecting his ladies.
I can not think of a more fitting epitath than that for a good rooster who did his job and gave his all.

I feel for you. It really shows that you cared for the dog more than the owner did. That poor dog was only $800 to her, nothing more - so sad... Your roo was beautiful, remember him & know that he is in chickie heaven with lots of nice girls to look after

Those are great dogs. I saw some of those guarding sheep on a backroads trip in my old VW bus. They stood up and stared me down the whole time I was passing. It was pretty impressive.

Wow, I am feeling your pain at not only losing your chicken but also having to kill a dog. It is so frustrating when I see people who have no properly trained their pups. And it sounds like she only wanted money out of the whole ordeal. You are obviously in the right to protect your family, livestock, and self but you are also right to feel the pain of dispatching the animal and then being the one to treat it properly in putting it back into the earth. It hurts to just think about. I am so sorry.

Thats so sad.

I dont understand how someone can feel their pet is more valuable than someone elses, and use that as an excuse for what happened.

The same sort of thing happened to us a few years ago. Two neighborhood dogs came onto our property, dug into the chicken run and attacked our 3 chickens. My husband killed one of the dogs (which was a Malamute) to try to save one of the chickens. We thought we saved the rooster, but he died later that afternoon.
DH went and told both neighbors what had happened. The one who owned the dog that DH killed came down to our house with 6 or 7 family members. They were angry and threatened to do something to my Pomeranian if they ever caught her out of the house!
Animal control was called and they wrote my husband a citation. He had to go to court for animal cruelty. Thankfully the law was on our side. The dog's owners were ranting about how their expensive dog was worth way more than 3 stupid chickens. But the judge told them that there is a leash law and my husband was clearly protecting his property especially since he did not go hunt down the other dog and kill it for revenge.

So sorry about your loss.I have been there too with dog's.I lost Numerous duck's 2 peahens and a male and a turkey.I couldn't prove it that the dog's done the killing till they got caught in act back in my turkeys again. But still all my bird's gone just left laying:(.These dog's had attacked my neighbor's Aust. cattle dog once here and apparently they went to his and got in his few little chicken's he had and back on his dog again. He put both the dog's down. They were beautiful lab's and too bad the owner's didn't care more about them or neighbor's animal's to keep them chained. My birds never had a chance.I have a poodle he goes barks at the cow's and has gotten kicked by a pony before but he has never once chased birds or killed anything.I hope the dog owner learned something from all your problems and keeps her dog's leashed or in a run. So sorry about your Roo:(. DG

very well said... I agree. I hope in honor of Mr. Jack you can find a beautiful boy who can become a flock guardian of whom Mr. Jack would be proud. I'm sorry for your heartache both for Mr. Jack and for a dog whose owners didn't care about him.
