I was joking with a friend of my mother (who beat the crap out of my brother and I regularly) that the duck went to the same parenting school as my mother

This place is quickly turning into a circus!!

I haven't been holding the baby too much, don't want him to foget his a duck and I made him a little nest out of some flannel fabric that he can snuggle into. Going to try to get some friends for him today.

Will keep you all posted, we also have a vet visit

i recently had to keep a little duckling in a towel donut as well..its hard! i had the towel rolled up, with a paper towel rolled up inside it, so that he was kind of propped up to regain strength in his legs. i think its actually a good sign hes getting out of the donut, means his foots healing.

my duck had a problem with his tendons and couldnt stand or walk. vet recommended hobbles, and after a day or two he could stand, but he wasnt standing on his feet right. the webs were closed.so i actually got the moleskin pads people use for their feet cut it in triangles and put them on the bottom of his feet to keep them open. after two more days, his webs stayed open and he was taking little steps. soon after he was walking.

its stressful because you feel so bad for the duckling..but if its will to live is strong, itll make it, and not even look like it was an injured duck. mine walks around like it could always use its legs, hes 4 weeks old now.

good luck!

Something I did for an african grey baby once was to cut three holes in an old pillowcase (one for each leg and a "poop hole") then suspend the pillowcase over an old aquarium, so the baby could just barely touch the ground. (She had folding fractures from the bonehead people who owned the pair, her parents, feeding only canteloupe and other fruits, when they KNEW the parents were feeding babies!) Duh...... can you say, "wholly inadequate nutrition?" Since your duckling needs to be able to feed, that may not work for you unless you take it out of the towel/pillowcase several times daily to feed it.

This is why I like to use good experienced broody hens to hatch my ducklings. I have only ever had 2 good momma ducks out of dozens that I have tried with. Most of mine abandon their babys promptly if they dont kill them first. My buff orpingtons though, will hatch and mother anything under them. I actually have one on 7 pekin eggs now
