I was SO mad when I got home today! The postman had left two boxes of hatching eggs outside the yard fence, on the ground, in direct sunlight and it was 103 degrees in the shade here today. I sure hope the eggs weren't ruined. I brought them in and unpacked them as soon as I saw them. My laser thermometer showed them to be about 101 degrees. UGH!!!!!

they may have started to develope in a temp like that only a degree or two away from the 99.5 they should be so mayb they'll hatch sooner than you thought they would

That is terrible! I mean terrible. I have worried that my post lady would get irritated with me (I have had quite a few delivered lately) So I wrote her a thank you note and put 10 dollars in it and thanked her for her great care. She appreciated it and I always get my eggs on the front porch in the shade with a loud knock on the door.
Can you catch the postal worker and talk with him and explain? I would hope he is reasonable.

Do you have a dog inside the fence? I actually had my mail delivery stopped once because they could see my dog through the locked screen door of my house. Yes, he was INSIDE. I got a nasty gram telling me all mail delivery would be halted until they were no longer able to see him when the delivery was made.

Your best bet is to have them clearly marked to call you for pick-up. Sorry and I hope they hatch.

Having had a couple of dogs break through a house window to get at me while I was walking my dog on the street in front of the home, I can understand their concern about approaching a house with dogs inside. In my case, I wasn't even approaching the house. There's no reason for a nasty gram, though, but I've noticed that most notices from delivery people are often much less than cordial. Odd.

I've found eggs are a lot harder to destroy than what you'd think from reading these forums, and I hope that's the case for you.

Oh, I didn't really blame them (except for not just politely asking) because yeah, I KNOW dogs can come through windows, etc. It was a rather large and intimidating looking rottweiler (actually my brother's dog I was "borrowing") and if I didn't know this dog would have been scared of it!

Well, at the time I'd never considered a dog coming through a window as a possibility, so it was a shocker for me. Seemed like it shocked the dogs, too, because they were as bewildered as heck to find themselves suddenly outside.

What are delivery people told to do when delivering packages to empty homes? I've seen them leave them in every imaginable state, and I would think it should be something that is somewhat regulated. They leave them outside, they mush them into mailboxes that are much too small, if they see a neighbor they leave it with them, if my dogs or chickens are out they're sure to go though the back gate to leave it at the back door, being sure to leave the gate open so I have to round up dogs and fowl when I get home . . . upside down, right side up, leaning, sideways, balanced precariously . . . there has to be something behind this madness. There's just no telling how your next package will be destroyed in this world. I'd hardly be shocked if people came on complaining that their eggs had been delivered and left swinging in the breeze by fishing line tied to the highest point on a yucca in the middle of their field. Wait and see . . . it'll happen.

That is TERRIBLE, so sorry! My packages are kept for me at the post office (as our rural mailbox won't fit most packages). Thank goodness.

Hope you are lucky and still have a good hatch. Keep us posted!
