So....talk about.....CANCER SUPPORT THREAD !!

Got my marching orders today!

Radiation simulation on Monday. Therapy to follow 7-10 days later (goal is 23rd). Dr. thinks about 27 rad treatments total. Chemo weekly- Cisplatin - will start that on the 25th. Wednesdays are the only day DH has off consistently, so we scheduled chemo for those days. Apparently chemo days will be very loooong. Chemo 5 hours (min) and then over to radiation for a quick zap.
Feeling pretty good with this whole thing, presently. We've been getting support from EVERYWHERE! Mom is a minister at a church a couple towns over and her parishoners have brought us food this week. Got food from a co-worker of DH's as soon as I came home from the hospital. Before we left for surgery, his co-workers took up a collection and basically paid for our hotel for the 2 nights we were up in Seattle, AND he brought home a Costco gift card from someone at work yesterday!

There is a program in place at work also (we both work for the same organization) that helps employees in our situation pay bills. We sent in an application, and it looks like they'll pay most of our mortgage this month! I am so relieved, I feel I can FLY THROUGH THIS! (me to cancer)=

That's the attitude to have!!! Chemo-take a book, a blanket, mp3 player, portable DVD, travel pillow. If they give you benedryl, enjoy the nap!! Make sure you are drinking lots of fluids, water, tea, milk whatever you want, it helps the chemo work it's way out of your system. For 2 days afterwards, I swear I can smell it when I sweat or pee.

I used to worry that my dog, Spook, was getting dosed as well! My vet reassured me that by the time it reached my skin as sweat, it was pretty well broken down and wouldn't hurt her.

Big thing------take time for you!!!!! If you are tired, rest. Hungry, eat. Upset, cry.

Remember......We're here for you!

Nurse,
It sounds like it was a bigger hair cut than they told you it would be, but you have such great support. It says a lot about you as people that everyone has helped out in that way. I will be keeping you in the good vibe box. So when you get this funny feeling. '~~~~' it was a BYC support wave.

Hey 3! Where is everybody??!! I've been working on chicken coops and the garden but it's just too dang hot to do anything today. They are talking possibly 95*!!!
ep.gif
Last summer we had 88 straight days of 90*+ It didn't cool off until Halloween!!! Hoping the raised beds this year will help with the garden. They were toast by the 4th of July last year.

Nurse? Luna? Deerman? & Everybody else time to check in!!! Has anyone heard from JJ?? Tried to PM but the box was full.

We've had our week run of 98+, right after a delightful week of low 80's, so I have had to keep in today. The headache yesterday wasn't worth it.
I have to water 3x's a day because the poor plants can not keep up. The water goes out quicker than it can get in.

I hope everyone is busy doing the outdoor things before it gets too hot. I wonder constantly how our ancestors managed. How did they find the ability to survive summer when it was just too hot to grow any food?
I doubt they had jars of peanut butter to depend on. Fat. They ate fat.

...wait... peanut butter=fat.
so, nothing too new.

Hope you are feeling well coyote.
My new dog is coming into her own now, How did I manage to get such a fine animal? She's delightful and perfect. She wants to please very badly. She wants to check out the chickens, but knows I do not want her to, so she just sits by the open gate and gives me the "But I am a GOOD dog!" face.

Good luck with the garden! I hope the mountain elevation gives you a bit longer than the 4th of July.

I have been sooo busy this spring. No time for anything but work.

I did hatch two batches of chicks.

Tried really hard to ignore a problem that was brewing. Finally couldn't ignore it anymore. Tomorrow, it looks like I get to have a uterine biopsy. Darn.

I'm not really the worrying kind. I know they need to look. If they didn't check it out, then I'd worry.

I knew something wasn't right. I hoped it was just the craziness of menopause and, ignored it. After my first class this morning, without a doubt, I knew the day was over, and I needed to call my doc. Denial only works for so long.
