Luna,

I wish I could send some cool air your way but even Maine reached 105 today. I do envy you with no hair. I would have loved to shave my head today. Anything for relief.

Well, the moon flowers LOVE this heat. They are growing fast. No flowers yet. I did sneak two plants in a garden I am revamping. I wonder if anyone will notice. I can't wait for flowers so I can post pics.

Stay cool. Have a great rest of the week. I wish I could check in more often but have to make hay while the sun shines. Ayup.

Amie

I snuck a little Maine in there at the end for ya.

My kitty...yes....I had to make that awful irrevocable decision for my sweet little guy.

Will leave it at that here as this thread is about you and I did want to check in on you.

I guess if there was ever a time to be without hair in NJ it's now (though next time, do it completely without cause, okay?

). The insane heat....it's just about 90 now and only around 7:30 a.m. Tomorrow though the temps will be a bit less the humidity is supposed to get way worse, and I had had hope for a bit of a break for everybody by then. It will still reach 100 with heat index. I kept the birds in the outbuilding yesterday as it was still over 100 by dark last night outside (they were none too thrilled with me and today is going to be the same drill). In the building they have fans and now an AC but even at that it was nearly 90 in there. Ellie is due to lay an egg today so I hope she can get crackin' before it gets much hotter this morning.

Hope you and your crew there fare well in this and somehow keep cool. Hoping hoping ..that the power stays on for all good souls who are vulnerable and/or have vulnerable beings in their care.

JJ

Damummis - It's good to know the moonflowers are flourishing! Mine aren't doing so well, they're skimpy and very slow to grow. I was afraid to feed anything in my garden thinking that it would stress them too much with all this heat, but maybe I'll give them a little something.

105 in Maine?! Yikes. I guess I'll stay in Joisey.

JJ - if we could just get past these next few days..........we should be OK. Every other morning I smell smoke. There must be a smoldering fire somewhere south of us. Scary. I'm afraid to look at the forecast, I just want to hear good news! Like RAIN. And LOWER TEMPS.

Kim - thanks for checking in, oncology nurses are wonderful people.

Yes I get 3 shots (one per day) a week after chemo. The Doc checks my blood and I'm always "a little down" with the WBC even though I feel fine! I know my hair will grow back. Curly would be fine, It was curly before......well, we'll see what happens. I'll take any kind of hair at this point.

I just hope my eyebrows come back, faint as they were to begin with, I need some kind of expression on my face. Freckles alone won't do it.

Hi Ozark hen! I'm keeping myself busy, no looking in the mirror and not liking what I see (or don't see!)......that's not good. So, I start projects and do them, even if it's disgustingly hot.

I'm wearing my scarves more than my wig. Even out in public!

This is a biggie for me. And it makes me feel strong. I still wear the mop to work, but I also brought one of my scarves......getting myself ready to wear that instead. Hah!

My next door neighbor spied me in my yard one day and put 2 and 2 together..... so I told her everything that's going on with me this past Monday. They are the only people I really talk to as neighbors go. They're good people. But, I was in the front yard watering plants and my neighbor across the street (we say hello, but that's it) he saw me.....and I went to wave and say hello.............he did an abrupt turn and pretended not to see me. That's OK. He probably didn't know what to say. I understand. Makes me wonder how many people think this is contageous though.

This is one of those times that you get those mental pictures of Dad flopped in one of those 4inch deep kiddy pools with a fan blowing on him.

I grew up in NJ and lived in AZ for 6 years. I would rather be in AZ in the summer than in NJ. Yes it's 110* on a daily basis and you do sweat but you aren't dripping with sweat when you step out of the shower!! "It's not the heat it's the humidity" I would always hear my mom say. Give me the heat of AZ. You can keep the humidy of NJ.

Luna, you need to make yourself a cooling neck wrap. 3inch wide strip of fabric as long as it is from shoulder to shoulder. Right sides together, sew to create a tube. sew one end closed and turn inside right. 3 inches from the end that you sew shut sew all the way across, turn and sew back over the same spot. This will be part of the tie. Now you need 2 Tablespoon of Aquasoil or some other water hold agent from the planting dept of Lowe's, HomeDepot or even Walmat. Pour this into your tube. Now sew the next tie end. 3 inches from the end, sew all the way across, turn and do it again. Then sew the end closed. Done. Take your neck wrap and soak it in cold water. The Aquasoil pellets will soak up water in a couple of minutes and your tube will be plump and a little squishy. Squeeze out the exess water and then tie it around your neck. It uses the evaorative cooling effect and your brain doesn't scramble as bad in the heat.

I use to weld in a steel plant, and I wore these. I kept a couple in my cooler (worked 12hr shifts)and one around my neck. Makes a big difference. God Bless all of you withstanding this heat right now.

Luna,

When I was going through Chemo I went to my son's Marine Corp graduation at Parris Island and got sand fleas under the wig I was wearing. You talk about miserable! After that I wore scarfs full time even to work. Once my hair was an inch long I no longer wore the scarfs

When ya'll hair grew back, have you found that it grows faster now? I swear I have to cut it ever 3 to 4 weeks or it goes everywhere! Mine came back in super curley!! It was curly as a kid and I hated it. Mom wanted it long, Shirley Temple. But Shirley Temple hair does not fit under a ball cap and catchers mask!! I keep it just over an inch long now. It's great! Get out of the shower, shake it, run your fingers through it, done!!

The hair on my legs doesn't grow nearly as fast. I've shaved them twice in 2 years and my pits only once!
