I am hopelessly late for work when there's heat like this because of what I am obsessed with doing for the birds first (on top of an extremely intense sick cat medical regimen - it all starts at 5 a.m. when I am not being delinquent
). By 7:30 this morning it was already stinkin' hot, no breeze, 1000% humidity and yet nowhere near how hot it will be later. I depoop really well because poop in this heat is, well, no good
and draws flies (please please universe, do not make me come back as a fly), I have multiple fans going for them, one aimed near the nest box because Ellie is trying to lay an egg today and it's extra tough work in this heat, and I will leave bowls of ice water and also frozen watermelon. Plus a plate of cut up cold fruit to start out their morning - grapes, cherries, blueberries.... as well as their regular food and seed treats. The ice I put in the bowls at 7:30 a.m. melted by 7:45 a.m. - ugh. So I am freezing bigger blocks of ice and am asking someone to put them out a little later- a lucky break today to have someone to do that. Ellie does not do heat well (BJ seems a bit more tolerant) so I'll be crossing fingers and toes all day. So....though I should have left an hour ago, I am not yet showered... And I just remembered the gas tank is on E and that I should have left early to fill it!
Hugs and have a good day, and may all our feathered friends fare well

If you like owls, check out this story. This guy Carlos in San Marcos CA put an owl box in his yard a few yrs ago. This spring, a pair of barn owls nested in it.
Of their 6 eggs, 4 hatched and just fledged a few weeks ago. He has day and night vision video cameras built into the box and has captured some amazing video, as well as photos.
The first link is his blog, with a complete photo gallery of this owl family. Carlos is an amazing man for doing all this. I was fortunate enough to discover his live cam's as the eggs were hatching and
got to watch as it all unfolded. The owlets named Max, Paddison, Wesley and Austin after his sons and grandsons. Anyway, check it out..... I started you off in the blog on the pics page, but theres more if you look around especially at the videos link. Oh and there is a book coming too
Thanks for the link lurky. Those owls are very interesting, I love they way they turn their heads.
I behaved today vert. It was a good day, Sad Sonia was there today and she didn't look good at all. Very pale, and she was in constant pain and could hardly walk. I saw her in the waiting room and said "hi" to her. BUT when my name was called first I dashed in and took the farthest seat and got hooked up right away. Sonia came in a little while later and sat for her benadryl/steroid/anti nausea drip. She WAS in pain and started to cry. That was it for her and they let her see the Dr.
I felt really bad for her, but I didn't want the negative vibes. I did a visualization of a protective covering over myself before I got there. It must have worked because it was a good day there after all. I read the rest of my drum book instructions and listened to the CD. Now I'm ready to drum! I was out before 2 pm.
JJ - it was stinkin hot today. I was tired but not because of the chemo, I think it was the steroids......I could not sleep last night. I took a xanax and read til 11 pm. Slept til 1:20 am and read the Owl book until I was finished at 5 am, dozed off for an hour and was up again.
So went downstairs and took care of the chickens and checked the garden and watered what I could in the short time I had and went to my appt. I think it's gonna be the same kinda hot tomorrow too. How did your birds hold out? Tallulah, my big girl, had her wings out and beak open, but still ran around scratching and hunting

We've been getting those "slight rain" weather reports too. We get a dark cloud and we all get excited and .......nothing. And no rain in sight that I can see, just threats lately. I'm sorry about your tree. Those aren't cheap either.
Awww poor dog. Which dog are you talking about? Not your service one!?
Two more to go? Yay you! Although I'm sure that seems like two too many for you! Still thinking of you and lurking about! I'm jealous of your beach vacation! Take care!
As far as not sleeping...it must have been the night for NOT sleeping. I was wide awake most of the night and I normally sleep sound. I went out a visited the chickens and horses at 2:30 in the morning and finally just stayed up and did some sewing.
